About the Author
Alistair Kinnon survived his education in Govan — a tough Glasgow suburb — during WWII. Trained as a Chemical Engineer, he worked with the Glasgow Criminal Investigation Laboratory. After some adventures in France, cloaked under the Official Secrets Act, and mundane work in various parts of the UK, he ended up in Canada where his work involved solving the most profound, and sometimes secret, problems of teenagers. Now a professional author with several titles to his name in other genres, Kinnon’s second novel in the Knotted Cord series is in progress.

After one step into the abandoned warehouse, Sergeant Martin Nicols stopped to peer into the gloom, sunglasses now in his hand. From a grimy, streaked window far overhead, a shaft of dusty light highlighted two small boys poised on the edge of a wooden packing case. Wide eyes fixed on Martin, the smaller boy smiled tentatively before he shivered and wriggled closer to his friend.
Martin’s feet stirred up the dust. He coughed, sniffed, and catalogued smells in his mind: old cement dust, mice, rats, tomcat, someone had thrown up recently, a whiff of cigarette smoke?
The naked body of a teenage boy hung between two flaking, rusty pillars about three feet apart. Each wrist was tied to the opposite end of a crosspiece. The ankles were tied to the poles, leaving the feet about nine inches clear of the floor. Martin inspected the area around the body.
Someone had swept the floor.

The city is plagued by an evil no one has eyes or ears for. A most despicable evil that sadly enough will never be banished from this world. Unless, of course, if Detective Martin steps into the picture.A boy is found murdered. Further investigation reveals a ring of child prostitution. Father of a young boy himself, Martin sees it as his holy task to find the true killers. For although all signs show to a homosexual teacher, Martin doesn't believe he's the culprit they should be hanging.
Alistair Kinnon gives us a real thriller, a true police story, a classic whodunit that can hold a reader transfixed to his copy of the book, be it in paperback or ebook form. Indeed, I dragged along my laptop everywhere I went for each opportunity to discover the truth behind this devastating case.
Kinnon writes about a very delicate topic. In my own country, we have only recently recovered from a similar case. Therefore, I didn't have any problem feeling sympathy for the heroes of the story and hatred for the criminals.
Although at first the characters seem somewhat flat, this is resolved after the story has taken off fully. Kinnon uses a lot of dialogue to make his point, characters being witnesses and explaining events. Sometimes you might ask the question why they are so willingly cooperating with the police, giving away everything they know so fast, but soon it's clear that not everybody is to be believed.
If you like Ridley Pearson's "Lou Boldt", you might find a long-lost relative of his in detective Martin - a true policeman who sticks to a case until it's solved.

Having read this book I want more!Not only does it take you to places you may not want to go, but once you get there, you can't stop reading it. An excellent book, which keeps the pace flowing and completely engaging.
