The lights are really great - BUT - and this is a big BUT - the rubber strap which straps the light to the handle bar breaks after about 6 months - which makes this a really expensive bit of kit. If it wasn't for the strap this would get 5 stars.

Best headlight without external battery 18 Oct. 2013
By Mike - Published on Amazon.com

They only way you'll need more headlight is if you are overnight spelunk-riding. 'High beam narrow' mode will light the road 20-30 yds ahead of you (safe at 20mph or more), and run for about an hour. My first ride with it I kept thinking a car was coming up behind me … but it was this light!! When the charge starts to get low, it automatically switches to low 'beam mode', and then you still have almost another hour. This light has changed my early a.m. rides before the sun comes up. It is awesome. Even on pitch black bike trails with no streetlights, I'm comfortable. Haven't tried the helmet mount yet, but the fact that it's included is a big plus. Full recharge in 5 hours or so, I usually just plug it in before bed and then put it right on the bike when I wake up. In flashing mode it lights up the street signs in front of you for 2-3 blocks. Highly recommended.

small light, smaller battery 17 Mar. 2014
By E. Chang - Published on Amazon.com
Colour Name: Black Verified Purchase
This little guy is bright, but it IS a little guy which means small battery. It will last long enough for one night ride (or less). It gets 2 stars because the description claims longer battery life. I get about 1hr of use before the little green indicator turns red (low charge). Half hour later I'm riding in the dark. If only it came with interchangeable batteries I could really ride at night with confidence.

The construction of this thing is really good! The USB charger hinge and surround is sturdy and I am not worried about it physically breaking. The outer case looks weather resistant (I dont ride in the rain) and is pretty robust, it would surprise me if it ever broke for any reason. The latch is made from good quality stretchy stuff (I abused one in an undisclosed store before purchase) and it is stronger than me. The downside is the latch is integrated into the housing, that means if something (stronger than me) breaks the latch you cant fix it.

Side note, I bought my girlfriend a different set of lights (same specs, half the price) and it lasts 3x longer. I would recommend those over this one mainly based on price, brightness & battery life.

Very disappoint.(not for cold weather 8 May 2014
By L - Published on Amazon.com

I wanted desperately to love this light ( I did, I swear!). The form factor being very minimal and discrete appealed to me. It is indeed a very visually attractive lamp. The lamp output in lumens is not in question at all. It lights a very clear path in front of the cyclist. My difficulty with this product is two fold and may not affect you or your style of riding and is listed accordingly.

#1 Listed run time vs actual run times, Knog lists the high beam run time on their website as " High-beam modes:Steady 1hr".
In actual application I found the run time to be between twenty two and twenty five minutes, in approaching freezing weather (35 to 32 degree temps Fahrenheit).

#2 The Knog attachment system is interchangeable between handlebar sizes, yet the fastener and interconnect is fundamentally flawed in two ways. The interconnect can be spread and is fragile with the plastic being the weak point. And the metal clamp attached to the rubber tensioner can de-tension on any significant bumps (this happened multiple times.

I did indeed return the original purchase for replacement with another identical unit, just in case I received a defective item. The same experience applied to the second lamp.

In defense of Knog and my position as an electronics bench technician I wanted to isolate the reported condition and as such I conducted an experiment. I discharged the battery and provided a full twenty four hour charge, Then in room temperature conditions (seventy degree Fahrenheit) I ran the lamp on high and with a stopwatch and received over an hour of run time. I duplicated this result a day later as well.

I can reasonably assume that this lamp is unsuitable for cold riding conditions as tested, and is better suited for summer evening cyclists only.

Best of luck and safe travels fellow cyclists!

Sleek, Slim, Stylish 25 Feb. 2014
By Josef - Published on Amazon.com
Colour Name: Black Verified Purchase
I purchased this because I was tired of either having to find a place on my bike for an external battery pack or having a big, ugly light with an internal battery on my stealthy looking road bike(yes, I know that shouldn't matter, but I should be allowed to have a bike that's not only high performing, but sweet looking too...kinda like a sports car:). This light isn't meant for riders who need an hour of bright light a day, that being said, its exactly what I needed. I do have times when I need a light with an external battery, but for my road bike which I predominately ride in the city or surrounding areas where there are street lights, this is perfect. It looks great on my bike and is very light weight. It has a multitude of light modes that will fit most needs. I set mine on Low which is more than enough light in areas surrounding the city and set it to the flashing modes in the city to ward off cabbies, idiots, tired drivers, texting drivers, and texting pedestrians. I get five days worth of a combination of 15 mins/day on low and 15 min/day on flashing, then charge it on the weekend(it actually charges fairly quickly in a couple hours). It would probably last for 5 five days on 30 min/day on low, but haven't tested it. The light output will not blow you away, but it truly shocked me what this little light can do and for how long it can do it. Also, the pattern of the light is pretty wide on the ground. The one and only nuisance I can think of is that you need to take the light and clasp off your bike or helmet(the charging input is on the back inside of the light and is a flip-out male usb) to charge it, meaning you'll need to re-adjust the light to your preference after every charging. This doesn't bother me too much as its fairly easy to adjust with its rubber clasp(hope that holds-up, especially with all the salted roads - will update this review on that when/if the time comes), but may drive other people nuts.

poor poor design 1 Nov. 2014
By Partially Biased Reviewer - Published on Amazon.com
Colour Name: Black
I did not purchase this through Amazon but still want contribute.

Design is excellent.
Material is strong & quality.
Light is super bright.

I haven't tested it enough to talk about battery life but from the many reviews already, looks like it's significantly shorter than advertised.

Here's my main issue:

The clasp system is beyond poor.

The rubber is indeed stretchy but the mechanism that closes it is very poor.
It's actually bewildering (metal clasp) - everything from light quality to product design is superb yet the clasp system is like it was designed by another company.
Any slight bump & the clasp will come undone & if you're not paying attention, you may not notice it fell off.

It's almost like Knog factored in 'planned obsoletion'when they designed it....

Give a thumbs up if you benefited from review.
