Product Description

Product Description

"Knitting Vintage" aims to reinvent retro patterns for modern fashion trends. Divided into chapters according to eras, there are approximately five knitting projects per decade, from the 1900s to the 1980s - the last time that handknitting was popular with the masses and before catwalk trends were so readily available and affordable on every high street. The main fashion themes of each decade are also discussed via historical background text that compares cross-decade interpretations of a look, and via mood boards, which provide illustrations, photographs, materials and colourways that were used as inspiration for the projects.

Knitting Vintage 13 Aug 2011
Format:Hardcover
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is a book of knitting projects from the 1920's to 1980's. The historical imformation is very good and the pictures are superb!! I have started knitting the twin set and found the knitting instructions to be straight forward. I really love this book. If you are into knitting vintage then this is the book for you!!!

I really love this knitting book!

I did a LOT of browsing for vintage knitting pattern books, and in my opinion this one had the nicest patterns and things I'd actually like to make.

It's beautifully laid out, with patterns divided into different eras (40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s) and a mood board and inspiration for each era. The photographs are big and the instructions are clear and thoroughly explained (UK knitting patterns, which I think is important to know as I hate buying pattern books and realising they're American and having to convert!) There is also a very comprehensive section at the back where they tell you not only about wool suppliers but places to get vintage fabrics, buttons etc.

Here are some of the patterns that I love:

A really cute snowflake-pattern beret
A lacy peter pan collar which looks stunning (and is very on-trend right now) but is really, really easy and quick to make
A long scarf with wavy stripes a la Tom Baker
The PERFECT chunky aran cardigan
80s-tastic glittery leg-warmers

As always, I'd advise you to look inside and make up your mind yourself, but I couldn't recommend better!
