5.0 out of 5 stars Slipper queen 25 May 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is an American book and although at times the text is quite garbled it is worth persevering.
A complete beginner may struggle to follow the instructions in this book, but with an experienced knitter friend to help them make sense of the text and chart they will find that the concept is not complicated.
Nothing in this book will tax the experienced knitter.
All patterns are in chart form, there are written instructions as well but it is made unnecessarily complicated by her abbreviations. i.e. the main colour MC constantly changes and the contrast colour CC is always white.
She uses TK1 for knit 1. All the stitches are Twisted in the Norwegian fashion and the spurious 'T' stands for this twist stitch.
If you knit the ladies size it will not look like the picture, of which there are many and all clear, as they depict the larger mans size.
I like the start of the slippers and socks chapters where she uses different coloured yarn to show each section.
For the intermediate plus knitter this is worth the money.
Because the patterns are in chart form it is simple to adapt the template to your own patterns.
Once you have done a couple of these it is easy to knit from memory without a pattern.

The slippers in particular are very cute and I have learnt a lot about 2 colour knitting using this book. Diagrams are excellent but the text leaves a lot to be desired. Just as well you are knitting a pair so you can get the second one right first time having found the errors with the first. A major error in that it is contradictory is that the instructions for the basic slipper say at the start that the soles are knitted using the more usual stranded technique, but when you follow the detailed instructions you find yourself knitting the whole in twined knitting. Similar errors appear in several places. Also the instructions are for 2 circular needles and while the author says that double pointed needles could be used there is no help with this at all. Nevertheless, I have enjoyed making my first slipper although there seems to be no quick way to do twined knitting so it's a long process.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cosy Feet 10 April 2012
Everyone loves Scandinavian. Got cold feet or need to show someone you love them? Keep cosy with these fabulous slippers and socks in Scandinavian style. Favourite heel to toe instructions for slippers and socks are worked from the top down. There are even options for a removable insole. The patterns are authentic - both traditional and modern, look warm, comfortable and stylish. Two-colour knitting with clear instructions and excellent charts and photography. They are suitable for men and women. Make your feet happy. This review first appeared on yarnsandfabrics website.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for competent knitters 30 Dec 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The patterns in this book are not for the inexperienced knitter. Methods of cast on are different from the normal 'cable' cast on and the construction of the slipper looks quite complicated. However, the designs are lovely and I can't wait to try them. They should grow quickly too and I love the Scandinavian patterns.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great book on slippers 13 Jun 2012

Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book has gotten me hooked on knitting slippers....and friends queing up to recive a pair :)
Explanations, patterns ect are well described, but the reason I do not give this book 5, but 4 stars is because I would have prefered that the book only had concentrated on slippers and left the sock-part out - Socks ar described everywhere, but slippers nice as these are not.

PS: I mostly work with one strand multicoloured and 1 solid, which comes out great. Only problem is, that it is hard to find 6ply sock yarn in other than very dark and allmost dull colours
