Product Description

Product Description

Following on the success of Classic Knits for Real Women, Sharon Brant has collaborated with Martin Storey,Wendy Baker and Jennie Atkinson to create a great collection of plus-size knits, which will appeal both to bigger women and women who want more generously proportioned knits. Plus this time, by popular request, the knits go a size or two larger! In addition to including a terrific collection of knits for all occasions and all seasons, it includes some great contemporary designs, with an emphasis on softly wrapping shapes - ideal for fuller figures. Shot on location in a loft apartment by top photographer John Heseltine, the 20 plus designs are perfect for modern women, who want practical yet chic knits that will serve the large figure well, including wraps and stoles, cardigans and jackets, easy sweaters, summery tops and pretty corsages. Sharon has also included an introduction to help women to choose the right design for their shape!

5.0 out of 5 stars Knitting goes large with style, 19 Nov 2008
I love this book. The designs and yarns used are varied and stylish and I have am having a tough time deciding which to knit first. At the front of the book is a section telling us how to measure and choose the right size for us. It also shows the designs on two seperate models to show how the designs can look on differnt shaped same size women. There are some close fitting garments as well as loose knits but none of them are sack shape and all are stylish. I love the fact that there are a few sleeveless tops that I can wear under an open blouse in the summer and the Kidsilk Haze scarf and wrap are sublime. Although the colours in the photos appear to differ slightly to the shade cards, I know from previous expereince that the shade cards are only a guide to the colours. Once knitted up or even in the ball they often differ to those seen in the shade card block.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice but not exciting, 4 Nov 2008
By B. Kennedy (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a nice, well-produced book with some pleasant patterns, although the colour reproduction is misleading as I found out when I compared the photographs with actual Rowan shade-cards. Unfortunately, from my point of view, although this book gives a good size range (from around size 14 to around size 24), the guiding design principle appears to be 'Big lass? Wear a sack!'. There are some nice patterns here, and I plan to make at least one of them, but few of them have much real fitting and an absence of fit can make larger women look blocky and shapeless. I bought the book sight unseen. If I had had a chance to leaf through it first, I wouldn't have bought it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book, 17 Nov 2008
Great selection of 20 patterns including a gorgeous beaded shawl and elegant wrap style tops. Sharon Brant, the author, has included some tips on how to choose the right design for your shape. The beautiful photography shows the garments off perfectly - the only difficulty is which one to knit first?
I love the fact that although the garments are for fuller figures they are still chic, elegant and very contemporary designs. A terrific collection of knits for all occasions and seasons.

2.0 out of 5 stars Big and easy but no style
Designed for size 16+, these knits are on the easy side. All in all it is perhaps the poorest of the Rowan books I have seen (I have not seen them all). Read more
