Product Description

"If you're of the opinion that knitted gifts carry a meaning, you can literally spell it out with this book. Knitted Letters is a useful resource book with plenty of patterns to incorporate letters, names, phrases, even poems into your projects, from hats and scarves to cushions and bags.

"Personalise any knitted gift with this creative collection of alphabets. From the classic serif and sans serif typefaces we see in magazines, to more graphic letters imitating handwriting, stencils, Gothic print and circus signs, there's so much here to spark your imagination.

About the Author

CATHERINE HIRST’s grandmother taught her to knit, crochet, and embroider when she was a little girl, and she’s been hand-making clothing, accessories, and gifts ever since. She studied English and art at the University of Pennsylvania and began teaching crafts in the US over a decade ago; now she teaches at craft studios and colleges across London, and in her own home studio. She can be found at www.catherinehirst.com, and often on the London Underground knitting a sock. Catherine is the author of Teeny Tiny Crochet and Granny Square Crochet (both published by CICO Books, 2012).

ERSSIE MAJOR has been knitting and crocheting since she was four years old, and now works as a designer, project manager, knitting tutor, and a knitter for other well-known designers. She has had around 200 patterns published in books and magazines including Anticraft: Knitting Beading & Stitching for the Slightly Sinister (F&W, 2007), 60 Quick Baby Knits (Sixth&Spring, 2011), and Knit Simple, HobbyCraft, and Inside Crochet magazines. She also self-publishes a variety of patterns on her website, www.erssieknits.comm, which includes her blog, Skeinspotting, featuring knitting news as well as reviews of yarns, books and films. When Erssie is not knitting or crocheting (which is hardly ever) she enjoys looking after, and occasionally knitting for, her two rescued greyhounds. She lives in London.

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointed 4 May 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I didn`t realise it was all in chart jargon, I actually thought it was freehand knitting of letters.Maybe it should be advertised as needing to read a chart. Very disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars XMAS COASTERS 6 Dec 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I wanted to personalise items for our Fun with Fabric project at Kidzeco, so this gives me a good start. I'm a beginner knitter and so I wasn't looking for anything too complicated. I have already made a set of NOEL coasters with red, glittery letters on a white cotton background and they worked out fine.

1.0 out of 5 stars very disappointed 21 Mar 2013
By j - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I awaited this book with great anticipation...especially because of the pillows on the cover that spell LOVE..Silly me...I thought they would have directions in the book for all the letters of the alphabet for each project...Well, I was wrong!!! I wanted to make pillows for someone's name...no instructions except for these 4 letters...if I want to chart other letters myself, I DON"T NEED THIS BOOK...SO unless you want to waste your money, skip it!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Many Pattern Errors 7 Jun 2013
By beth bennink - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
If I could give this book less than 1 star, I would. There are many pattern errors and when there are no errors, the instructions are often confusing. I have purchased yarn and found the projects impossible to complete, and I am an experienced knitter, Also, I have contacted one of the authors(Catherine Hirsrt) on her website with questions about the errors and have received no response.DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK.

1.0 out of 5 stars Totally incorrect instructions in this book 9 Aug 2013
By maggie - Published on Amazon.com
I bought this book specifically to make the word LOVE for my daughter for her upcoming wedding. Be warned that the written instructions for this particular pattern are completely wrong. Don't even try to follow the pattern. I ended up figuring out how to do the letters from the charts - which I could have drawn myself without wasting $22.95 on the book. Whatever could be wrong in these patterns is wrong - I couldn't even begin to itemize the mistakes. Until they fix this don't waste your money - I haven't looked at any of the other patterns. Based on my experience for the LOVE pattern, I don't actually intend to. It's a shame because it seemed like a really good book of patterns.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful resource ... just a little bit disappointed 12 April 2013
By Jann Glisson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
While there are many complete alphabets, I was disappointed that patterns for the stuffed letters on the cover are only for the four letters LOVE. One can no doubt adapt to create other letters, but when you buy a book it is because you want the pattern and don't want to figure it out for yourself. Some nice project patterns which incorporate letters and personalize. I expect to use it often. Format is attractive and nice binding. The book feels nice in your hands.
