Review

If you're after a quick knit fix, then make sure you get hold of a copy of this fab new book. It has 20 brilliant ideas for adding a fresh twist to your footwear. They're all quick and easy to knit, so are ideal for gifts, and are the perfect way to use up the leftover balls of yarn in your stash.-Knit Today It can be hard to come up with new ideas for stocking fillers every year, especially ones to please the whole family. However, you won't go far wrong with a pair of knitted boot cuffs, and this book is packed with great designs for men, women and children. They're a great way to give boots or wellies instant appeal and the patterns inside are all really simple, so even complete beginners can have a go. As boot cuffs are so small, you'll be able to knit up loads in a hurry, leaving you plenty of time for your other festive activities.-Knit Today We all need some extra warmth in winter and we'll be bang on trend with these up-to-the-minute ankle warmers. There are designs for 20 pairs and almost all the Fair Isle pattern charts can be transposed for machine knitting. They make great gifts and are so simple even beginners can have a go.-Machine Knitting Monthly If you enjoyed making Susie Johns Knitted Beanies (also reviewed on this site), why not dress up your boots? In this slim volume there are twenty patterns for the currently fashionable toppers to keep your legs cozy this winter. There are cuffs for men, women and children in here and something to please everybody. Choose from plain but practical or those with hearts, flowers, pigs, penguins, ducks, plaid or stripes. The author is an Art Deco fan so there is more than one Clarice Cliff inspired pattern, one with boucle yarn and my own favorite, the festival-inspired Rasta Jester. It helpfully always says if a pattern is suitable for the more experienced knitter, and mostly I would pitch this book at improver level. Each page spread has a full-page photo of the item one side and the pattern on the other, telling you also what needles and yarn you need and sometimes with a graph too. As with all the knitting books in this series this is not the place to learn to knit, but these patterns grow fast and make great projects to build confidence.-Myshelf.com Whether you call them cuffs, hugs, toppers or covers here are "Twenty to Make, Knitted Boot Cuffs" by Monica Russel. This is the winter season's new trend. Now you can knit your own. They are quick to knit, a stash buster and fashion forward. Have fun with the 20 patterns for your Wellies, hiking or short fashion boots.-www.examiner.com

4.0 out of 5 stars Love to knit 24 Sept. 2012
By Terry
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
A book for knitters of all abilities at a very good price. With 20 different patterns there is something for everyone. If you prefer to knit with DK yarn then perhaps this isn't for you, as 15 of the designs use super chunky or aran weight yarn and only 5 use DK weight.

4.0 out of 5 stars quirky 28 Sept. 2012

I ordered this book on a whim and have been pleasantly pleased with it. There are designs for kids, stylish ones for adults and then some quirky ones. Most are knitted in chunky or aran but that just make them warmer.

3.0 out of 5 stars boot cuffs 15 Oct. 2012
By sal
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
A handy sized little book, good for inspiration but I think you need to be a little experienced as there are a few mistakes in some of the instructions. (nothing drastic)
Would make a nice gift for a younger member of the family so long as mum or gran are on hand :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Just marred by the typos 10 Feb. 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This attractive little book is a bargain at the price. It's full of fun and quirky patterns ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous which means there is something for every (female) one here. I liked the fact that the author says all the patterns on circulars can also be knitted on straights too - there are lots of us who are not circular fans! A minor irritant is that only two of the patterns are in DK. But the only reason this book fails to get my 5* rating are the typos. I have only just started my first pattern from the book, yet in the first four lines of pattern have already found 2 typos - OK, they were obvious to me but this shouldn't happen and I suspect that this will be the standard throughout. So, buyer beware.

5.0 out of 5 stars Boot Cuffs 12 Nov. 2012
By Suanna
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
What a fun project! Having returned to knitting after many years, now retired and having time on my hands, decided to look for something'different'. Instructions are clear and adaptable and I have made a range of them --some following the patterns and some adaptations of my own. A must as stocking fillers for the entire family! A really good range of books too, something that will appeal to all knitters, beginners to experienced.
