I adore this book, 2 Sep 2001
By A Customer
This book is absolutely wonderful. The patterns are wonderful, as are the photographs and the explanations.I am a new knitter and feel I could attempt to tackle all of the designs.McTague somehow has given me confidence by her writung and clear photographs ,which show the designs from several angles in some casesThe only problem is,they are all such gorgeous patterns that is hard not to want to knit them all. My only gripe is that my very favourite designs in the book, and I mean VERY as I like most of them only come in new born sizes..up to 6 or 9 months .....these are the most beautiful coat-dresses ( there are about 3 lovely different coat-dresses) which I desperately wish to make for my one year old as they would be gorgeous on slightly older babies. Fiona please take note !!!!

Knits that babies and toddlers can actually wear, 10 Aug 2006
I have had a good look at many of the baby knitting books on the market, and was disappointed that the covers looked great but the garments inside were too funky or impractical for the baby to actually wear. Also there is often a lot of padding with instructions for weird toys etc which is not necessarily what I, at least, wanted.
Then I found this book which is packed with wearable items, in fact it's difficult to choose which to knit next. I am not a very skilled knitter, but I am enthusiastic and find that Fiona McTague's clear instructions, along with the excellent line drawings, are encouraging.
I really recommend this book very highly.

The Pleasures of Knitting, 4 Sep 2002
Fiona McTague gives such careful and exact instructions that I was able to enjoy making the large lacy shawl - something otherwise I would have not dared. ( Although it was easier to knit the border, sew it on almost to the end, and so easily get it exactly the right length, than to use the method suggested.) I appreciated her care in giving precise techniques at the beginning - I like to know exactly which method the designer finds appropriate. Her designs are very attractive and charmingly illustrated. What I have made has been rapturously received (the pleasures of grandmotherhood). It appears that today's mothers find some of the coats oldfashioned and impractical even though I find them completely adorable but perhaps that is just my daughter's reaction, and she has a son - no matter , there are beautiful boys' desgins too! She was thrilled with the aran style pullis and I like details such as ties for the bootees. I look forward to more and am grateful to Fiona McTague for this lovely, lively book.
