My wife knits, I love sport. Is this the perfect gift for both of us? Possibly.

Hilarious knitted versions of some of my favourite ever athletes. Mark Spitz is the best but where is Valery Borzov? Almost lost a star for that omission but my wife has promised to adapt one of the patterns to knit him.

Nutty knitting craziness, with some very funny pics. The Fosbury Flop is brilliant.

Not only does this lovely wee book have step by step instructions how to knit the athletes (inc medals and podium) you can also knit your very own Olympic rings an torch, perfect for your personal opening ceremony! And if all the patterns in the book are not enough for you, you get a link to download a free pattern! Definitely worth a full 5 star rating and a gold medal.

It is also worth having a look at Carol Meldrum's other books as there are some real gems and dozens of knitting, crochet and sewing projects to keep everyone occupied.

This is a super little book. It includes patterns for medals, Olympic rings, a torch and you can even knit your own ticket!! There are basic patterns for a male and female doll, to which you can add a leotard, trainers, vest, and shorts, to make sports stars such as Seb Coe, Steve Ovett and Usain Bolt. Highly recommended and great value.

Excellent Olympic knit book which includes patterns for EVERYTHING you could require. From a podium, laurel wreath, torch and the Rings to a knitted version of 'Discobulus' (the famous Greek statue of a discus thrower).
Then there's assorted actual athletes from over the years, all based around a very basic figure. I liked Mark Spitz in his stars & stripes trunks; Cathy Freeman in her bizarre hooded aerodynamic outfit; and Olga Korbut. More recent Names include Chris Hoy and Usain Bolt.
Love it!

Although I have not purchased this book, and probably won't now, I was asked to craft Usain Holt. As mentioned in previous reviews the basic doll does look slightly amateurish but being an experienced knitter I altered parts and feel made for a better item. One suggestion is to tie up tightly the last row of head instead of casting off giving a better shape. The other thing was that the stated yarn amounts were greatly exaggerated and I found that although I had purchased 100grms for basic doll had not used anywhere near and in fact could have purchased a craft ball of 25grms and that if you have a stash like myself could in fact do the clothes from odd balls of left over yarn. Can I also mention that whoever made the doll for book may benefit from a class in embroidering facial expressions in order that the dolls have less scary expressions! Come contact me instead for your publication work I'd be more than happy to do it in a professional manner!

Nice little book with some good pictures and nice little patterns. It is an easy to follow book and like most 'doll' type knitting books most of the characters are one basic patter with little changes and different wool colours. A nice little book to add to a knitting book collection.
