great for beginners 11 Nov. 2004
By M. Poller - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
There are 16 scarf patterns and lots of advice especially for beginners so this would be a great book to start out with. My favorite scarf is the final one using a double decrease technique to form diamonds and it is explained very well. Lots of different yarns plus alternate yarns listed as well for many of the patterns. I'm docking her one star because she suggests beading as an embellishment and has a photo of it but nowhere does she tell how to do it. And on another lacey pattern which she admits can be difficult, she should have put in a chart to make it easier. But the pictures are great and the format and price are just right.

inspiring and good 4 Jan. 2005
By Anne Leland - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Very good book. 16 patterns, as the cover states, but the pattern stitches inspire you a lot to design your own scarves. All of them look nice, except the last one consists of many, many mohair squares that must be knit separately then attached later. That thought doesnt exactly excite me, so i think ill skip that one...

not a knitting instruction book, either--the knitting instructions in the beginning are meant more for review than teaching. get this book if you already know how to knit and dont depend on it to teach you.

Exactly what I needed 7 Mar. 2005
By Jennifer C. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
My friend and I are starting a little side business where we are selling custom designed scarves. This book was perfect for that. It gives great basic patterns for scarves and shows the stitches in various fancy yarns. If you are not a creative type who likes your end product to look exactly like the picture, don't buy this. If you like to try different yarns and be a little creative in your knitting, this is the perfect book for you.

worthwhile 25 Oct. 2006
By Linda Pagliuco - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I have a pretty large collection of knitting books and knit almost every day. By now, I've found that no single book provides 100% of what I look for, but most contain some new ideas and some interesting patters. A scarf is a very basic garment, just a long strip of cloth, really, but there are endless variations. Knit Scarves contains some lovely patterns, as well as clear instructions and diagrams covering how to accomplish the various techniques and stitches. Each pattern has a little supplement attached suggesting yarns to try in addition to the one shown. A good stimulus for creativity. This one has found a place in my permenant library.

For the Extremely New Knitter 24 Jun. 2005
By Allison Linehan - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This book is only for the beginner. It's full of garter-stitch, drop stitch, rib and other basic stitch pattern scarves. The only thing I found interesting, that would be nice to see in other pattern books, is that for each pattern, she has a section called "Another Yarn to Try" where 1-3 other yarns of different fibers and/or weights are swatched in pattern. It's a good jumping off point for for beginners who are afraid of straying from exactly what the pattern calls for.
