Biography

Hawkwind are an English rock band, one of the earliest space rock groups. Their lyrics favour urban and science fiction themes. They are also a noted precursor to punk rock and now are considered a link between the hippie and punk cultures.

Formed in November 1969 by singer-songwriter and guitarist Dave Brock, Hawkwind have gone through many incarnations and styles of music. Critic Jim ... Read more in Amazon's Hawkwind Store

1.0 out of 5 stars Hawkwind Knights of Space 11 Aug 2008
Format:Audio CD
Firstly this is the 1st review i've done, but I feel I must for this album.

I Have been a Hawk fan since the early 80's and have seen them live so many times i have lost count.I know nothing will ever top Space Ritual but live '79,Canterbury Fayre,Business Trip,Live Chronicles even The 1999 Party all have something better to offer than this album.

If the band did have flu they would have been better off staying in bed.
And i am sorry to say that Mr Dibs should stick to playing bass!

The main reason i bought this album was for the "5 bonus tracks" which unfortunately do not appear. So to say i was disappointed would be a major understatement.

So avoid this and buy one of the above mentioned albums instead.

3.0 out of 5 stars From space rock to pub rock..! 7 Aug 2008
Format:Audio CD
As a Hawkwind fan for over 25 years,i was eagerly looking forward to this new live release...how disappointed was i.
The usual "space rock" sound has been lost and replaced by a chas'n'dave type pub sing-a-long on the piano.Gone are the swoopy synths and strange sounding blips and beats and all the songs on this 2 cd set sound only half as good as the original versions.
Sorry to say so,but this live cd is nowhere near as good as "the business trip" album of a few years ago which,in my opinion,is one of the best Hawkwind live albums around!
I still totally love this band, but i just don't love this cd.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor relation to a live recording..... 26 Aug 2008
Format:Audio CD
Considering how long we waited for this following the lightweight Take Me To Your Leader; this falls very short of a return to form. Thin production that occasionally remembers Dave Brock is on stage with a guitar, sound swamped by fairground keyboards - it's just not balanced at all and sounds more like a bootleg in all honesty.
The annoying thing is that on the face of it, it's a good set list. Some golden oldies revived, and, surprisingly Mr Dibs voice actually suits some when he stays within his (considerable) limitations. Other times he can make you cringe as he over stretches himself.
I was at the gig and remeber thinking the sound was light at the time, this proves it very well. Jason Stewarts keyboards are an integral part of the Hawk sound, but only to augment, not to dominate to the detriment of everything else.
Yet, that said, they still get into gear a couple of times, Dave remembers to play and sing and it all gets rather good.....then we're back on the merry-go-round I'm afraid.
Could have been special this; this year let's hope the guy on the desk is listening to the same gig.
