Book Description

3 April 2008 Lords of Avalon (Book 2)

While Morgen Le Fey controls Camelot, the remnants of the Round Table seek sanctuary in Avalon. For countless centuries Varian du Fey has been the assassin for the infamous Merlin. However, because of his heritage, Varian has never been truly accepted as a one of the Knights of Avalon. Lancelot may have been his father, but his mother is one of Morgen le Fey's closest allies, and both she and Morgen are keen for Varian to take his rightful place in the conflict between good and evil...

Merewyn's beauty brought her heartache so she traded her loveliness and ended up an old hag doomed to be a servant at Camelot for eternity. Varian's devious mother promises Merewyn her beauty and her freedom back if she seduces Varian to the dark side and forces him to join her Circle of the Damned...

3.0 out of 5 stars Exciting fantasy adventure 30 Nov 2006
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Varian is one of those dangerous creatures that no one is quite sure of: is he good or evil, knight or beast? Even he isn't sure.

Merewyn was once a beautiful woman who had her looks stolen with one foolish wish. Only she can help Varian escape when he is caught by his evil mother and Morgen (of Arthur and Camelot fame). Together with Blaise, the mandrake who we've met previously in Sword of Darkness, they make their escape and flee into some haunted, spooky woods. Intriguing characters, humour, fantasy adventure and romance combine to make this a lovely read. It's not particularly intense or passionate, but there are some touching moments that make it an enoyable read.

Just lately, I've found that Sherrilyn Kenyon/Kinley MacGregor books to be lacking her initial depth and intensity. Good read, but I want her to get back to her fabulous best.

5.0 out of 5 stars enjoyable fun 4 Dec 2006
Format:Mass Market Paperback
It's funny how different people view books I really enjoed this offering from Kinley MacGregor and soon forgot that it was Sherrilyn Kenyon writing in her alter ego. As usual she provides the reader with excellent secondary characters and some very funny moments that had me laughing out loud,(much to my daughters annoyance). As usual she doesn't pussyfoot around the sex scenes and she place's them with her usual deft touch. This book follows the traditional pattern of trials of adversity co-joined with moral dilema's where true love wins out. A true feel good escapist read without much realism intruding. Just as I like it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Arthurian sagas with a twist 26 Aug 2007
By Wyvernfriend VINE™ VOICE
Format:Mass Market Paperback
The Grail Knights protect the treasures of Britain. They and some others battle Morgen who has control of Avalon. The Merlin is their boss, and she trusts Varian duFey, she uses him as an assassin, to protect the Grail Knight's secrets. He's the son of Morgen and is despised for his birth.

She's Merewyn, Morgen's captive and transformed into a hideous hag. She's offered a chance to reclaim her looks and to escape the constant terror in Avalon.

When the two meet they aren't sure whether they should trust each other. But they have to in order to escape.

It's fun, fun that doesn't stand up well to careful examination but that's not why you would read this, this is enjoyment reading not serious reading and once I got past the first few chapters I did enjoy it.
