Varian is one of those dangerous creatures that no one is quite sure of: is he good or evil, knight or beast? Even he isn't sure.
Merewyn was once a beautiful woman who had her looks stolen with one foolish wish. Only she can help Varian escape when he is caught by his evil mother and Morgen (of Arthur and Camelot fame). Together with Blaise, the mandrake who we've met previously in Sword of Darkness, they make their escape and flee into some haunted, spooky woods. Intriguing characters, humour, fantasy adventure and romance combine to make this a lovely read. It's not particularly intense or passionate, but there are some touching moments that make it an enoyable read.
Just lately, I've found that Sherrilyn Kenyon/Kinley MacGregor books to be lacking her initial depth and intensity. Good read, but I want her to get back to her fabulous best.
