More About the Author

Sue-Ellen Welfonder is a USA Today Bestselling author who writes Scottish medieval romances for Grand Central Publishing. As time allows, she also writes as Allie Mackay, penning contemporary paranormals, mostly set in the Scottish Highlands.
Her twenty-year airline career allowed her to see the world, but it was always to Scotland that she returned. She spent most of her adult life living in Europe, using that time to explore as many castle ruins, medieval abbeys, and stone circles, as possible. She still visits Scotland whenever she can.
Proud of her own Hebridean ancestry, she belongs to two clan societies and loves attending Highland Games. In addition to Scotland, her greatest passions are medieval history, the paranormal, nature, and animals. She enjoys long walks and bicycling, loves haggis, and writes at a 450-year-old desk that once stood in a Bavarian castle.

This book tells the story of the Clan MacInnes and the Clan MacLeans. Bad blood runs between them due to an ancient tale of a MacLean leaving his MacInnes wife to drown on a rock off the isle of Doon.
It appears as if history has repeated it's self when Lileas, sister of Isolde MacInnes laird of that Clan,is found drowned on the Lady rock, her husband brother to the Laird of the Macleans is overcome with grief but the MacInnes believe that he is responsible for Lileas's death.
When Donall, Laird MacLean brings his sister-in -laws body back to her Clan he is held prisoner.
The MacInnes want to torture him and hang him for his Clan's crime but Isolde MacInnes, the Laird wants to use him to help keep the peace between the two clans and also save her from a marriage to a violent man from another Clan. Her plan is to bed the MacLean Laird and get with child so that they can all live in peace.
When Donall becomes aware of her scheme he vows to make her want him for himself not just to get with child, he wants marriage.
I enjoyed this book but felt that it took too long before they finally got together. I have read 'Devil in a kilt' which i really loved but feel that this book does not quite make five stars. However i shall continue to read Ms Welfonder's books as they become available for she is a good story teller and worth keeping on the book shelf.

This book took too long to get to the point, more than half way through before they even got together. I was really looking forward to reading some of this authours work after reading the online reviews, now I would think twice before buying anymore of her books.

Welfonder's series, 4.5 29 Jun 2005
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Mass Market Paperback
I really enjoyed getting lost in all of Welfonder's stories in this series. Her characters are Dynamic and will definitely stay with you. Different plots drive all of the stories and there were some extremely memorable scenes. I can't wait till her next one.

A couple of things were annoying though. For one thing, these hero's thoughts don't stray far from their "Phallus." Which did make for frequent sexual situations, thus one of the reasons we all love the genre, so I'm not so sure I'm complaining. And secondly, I started to "skim" parts of the book (which I NEVER do). It's just that I found myself frequently at points where, for instance, the heroine will say something and then it's 12 paragraphs of anything the hero could possibly be thinking or feeling till he responds to her. Or five paragraphs in the middle of the conversation to describe how the shutters are rattling against the windows! And unfortunately, I'm not exaggerating.

Having said that, I will still buy and devour anything and everything by this author. And would definitely recommend this series to be enjoyed mostly if read in order. Her first book is 1) Devil in a Kilt, then read 2) Bride of the Beast, then 3) Only for a Knight. And The MacLean Trilogy order is: 1) Knight in My Bed, 2) Master of the Highlands, and then 3) Wedding for a Knight.

So you know where my tastes lie: For the absolute best in Highland romance I would recommend Julie Garwood's "The Bride," "The Wedding," "The Secret," "Ransom," and "Saving Grace." Karen Marie Moning, and Marsha Canham. For Medieval: Garwood's "The Prize," "Honor's Splendor," & "Gentle Warrior." Also Amanda Quick's "Mystique," "Desire," & anything by Kinley Macgregor a.k.a. Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Sue-Ellen Welfonder knows how to use words and weave pure magic with her pen. Her novels are well researched and historically acurate, and her plots are refreshing. I have personally loved Knight in my Bed as well as Devil in a Kilt. Medieval Scotland is revived and alive with love and passion with her wonderful characters. I strongly suggest any work by this author and I can barely wait for her next book. She is certainly a keeper! Don't miss her.
