Product Description

Book Description

Real-life crime told by someone with the inside track. The Ross Kemp of the prison world.

Product Description

Drug addiction. Criminal behaviour. Murder... and all before his sixteenth birthday. From foster home to children's home to living rough on the streets, Cain never had a normal childhood. By the age of 8 he was carrying a knife. Seven years later he was serving time for killing someone. Based on real events, ex-prison officer Ronnie Thompson tells Cain's shocking story and reveals what really happens to teenage offenders both on the streets and once they're behind bars. Prison riots, assaults on officers, roof-top protests and brutal acts of violence - this is an inside account of life in a young offender's institute and of an angry young man spiralling dangerously out of control.

This is a great book. The character leaps of the page and you feel like you have see him wandering all over the high street in your town wearing a hoody and attitude. The best book by the author.

5.0 out of 5 stars TRAGIC 4 Jan. 2011
This is Tragic tale about a man who grew up without any love or attention from anybody who hated the world and everyone in it. A great book once again fron Ronnie Thompson who as the other reviewer is saying is turning into a great writer. Just when you think the character in this book Cain Thomas is going to live happily ever after there is a heartbreaking twist at the end that shocked me more than anything I have ever read. All in all a great book just like Screwed and Banged Up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting 27 Nov. 2013
By AG1326
Format:Kindle Edition
Good story, like all Thompson's books, about a bad boy turned good. Not too sickly sweet and quite gritty in places. I often wanted to slap the younger Cain for his thuggish behaviour and general disrespect but found myself rooting for him. My only criticism is the addition of gang slang, I know it's Cain's story and that is probably how he would tell it but nothing would've been lost if each sentence wasn't finished with "believe" or some other one word obscenity.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking 4 Nov. 2013

Really enjoyed the book, despite bad language.
Really made you think about why someone would behave in an antisocial manner, and actually made you feel sorry the character who does wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good read 28 Sept. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I started this book and couldn't put it down. Was up until 3am finishing it. Really good portrayal about life as a drug addict and young offender, you really feel for the main character as he battles to turn his life around, albeit against all odds. Had tears in my eyes on a few occasions, in McDonalds with the PO, at the restorative justice meeting and how the main character ends up living his life at the end.

The guy whom wrote this book is trying to hard to impersonate prisoners, and annoyingly try's to write as though a prisoner/young hoodie. It becomes very distracting, put this one down for a later date.........

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Great
Not a book one would remember. Not enthralling, more put down and forgotten. Just a long drawn out tale of a young fella and how he went wrong.
