Beauty and the Beast 24 Feb 2012

If you are a fan of Clive Barker or Thomas Harris and like your thrillers a little weird then this book is for you. I'm not really sure how ugly these people are meant to be but it does a bit of good using your imagination and wouldn't it be amazing if you could just be transformed into someone amazingly beuatiful that easily!!! You do have to go along with this book but as I find with a lot of stories by this author, once you get into it all and start going with the flow of the story you really do want to keep reading. In parts it is a tad futuristic which helps the story to work.

Tense and strange 19 Feb 2012

If you like thrillers that are offbeat and a little weird but with a central idea that just nags away at you then you will like this book. It's about two clever kids at a US college who are ugly, or at least, slightly disfigured and their plan to take over the life and fortune of a rich kid who has everything. There has to be a way of doing this and that is down to a brilliant plastic surgeon who turns the girl into a dazzling beauty and the boy into a dead ringer of the man he hates. From then on it rattles along at a good pace and even seems to leave scope for a sequel

Knife Edge 11 Dec 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I have just finished Knife Edge by David Callinan and I have to say I do have rather mixed feelings about it. It is totally far fetched and most of the things happening in it just could not happen. You have to read this book with that in mind. Having said that I also have to say that I did enjoy it.
Without giving too much away, it is about some of the clients of a plastic surgeon and indeed the surgeon himself. Some of the things that go on there are totally unbelievable. But then I do not know anything about plastic surgery and I could be proved wrong. It is quite a violent story in places with the odd smattering of sex thrown in but it all fitted in with the story and was not overdone. There are too many murders with the police always two steps behind to make this story believable. All of this sounds like criticism which I suppose it is but as I say read this book with an open mind and I think you will enjoy it.
I felt the writing was good and the story flowed nicely. It is a fast moving story and yes I did find it, while not exactly unputdownable (is that a real word??), I did want to pick the book up again to carry on and see what happens. I would definitely read other books by this author.
Whether I would recommend this book to everyone I don't think I would. But I think that if you do try it you may well not be disappointed.
