My 9 year old son enlisted his Dad's help in constructing this. I believe the instructions were easy to follow, and it was certainly a learning exercise for both of them. On the minus side, it takes up a lot of space, and we have had to put it upstairs out of the way of our kittens, as they were determined to deconstruct it!! It is too high to go on top of our storage units, so it is on the floor and I would recommend you take note of the size. That said, Cian loves it and is now saving up for the video coaster!!

My 9-year-old got this for his birthday and was able to build it largely himself over the course of a weekend. It took a long time to build and at times he needed help getting getting the pieces to "click" so they would stay together. The instructions are pictorial and at times pretty confusing and hard to understand, I was amazed my son could do it. But after it was all put together and we put in the batteries, the motor can not shoot the car to the top of the volcano; my son has to push it manually. He doesn't mind and is really enjoying it, but it stinks that after all that work the thing doesn't go as it should.

This started out a fun project for my son. He built it with my help. Some pieces were hard to snap together, even for me. We were very excited when we finished building the rocket. Then, when my son turned it on and tried it out, the car didn't shoot up to the top of the rocket. It only made it about halfway up. This was with brand new batteries in it. It needs a stronger motor to get it to the top. Disappointing!

My 9 year old son loves building toys. We had been buying him the larger lego sets, but the problem with those is once they are complete if you look at them cross-eyed they start falling apart. You can't play with them.
I found this set at Costco and bought it for my son for Christmas. It provided a wonderful challenge for him to build and, more importantly, when it was complete he had something he and his 6 year old brother could play with. He and his brother love this roller coaster! This is a great toy!
