I love the whole series of these stories about Jim Qwilleran and his two siamese cats Koko and Yum-Yum. I first came across one, on a talking book, narrated by George Guidall. I think his voice helped me become attached to them because it is gentle and relaxing just like the stories. The plots are not challenging but involve a group of people who become familiar so that reading another book is like going back to visit friends. In each book there are some interesting crimes, usually including a death or two, solved by Qwilleran and the cats.

The books have the feel of Agatha Christie's but set in the present, in small-town America. They are not intellectual but are well written and engaging - very good within their type.

Having received the first three books in this series free, I didn't read them for a long time. However, I am now on the eighth one, and completely 'hooked'. Okay, the cat(s) figure in them, but small-town life is wonderfully evoked; and when something 'bad' happens, it is a real jolt to the system. Of course the cats are adorable (dog-lovers please give them a try) and very clever -- and book-lovers themselves. So, go on, visit Koko and Yum Yum and all their friends 400 miles north of everywhere and see if I'm not right.

I bought 2 of this series for my 93-yr old mother who listens to audiotapes as she is blind. She enjoyed both books enormously and I shall probably get more of the 'cat who' stories for her.
