Product Description

Product Description

"Heghlu'meH QaQ jajvam."
"It is a good day to die."
What is the proper response to this? What should I do?
Now, with Klingon for the Galactic Traveler you will know.
Organized into four easy-to-use sections, this book will guide your steps through the Klingon language and customs:
The regional dialects of the Empire
Common, everyday usage of the language
The slang phrases and curses that color the Klingon volcabulary
Most importantly, the proper verbal, physical, and cultural responses.
A misspoken word to a Klingon, who is quick to take offense and even quicker to take action, could have dire consequences. This book is the indispensable guide for the galactic traveler.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I was expecting. 18 Aug 2010
Format:Paperback
I thought I was buying a book that would teach me the basics of the Klingon language, but reading through it is more like the history of the language and how it varies.

That does not mean the book is not good though! It goes in to so much detail I need to re-read parts just to make sure I understand it properly. I think if you are going to buy this book, you would need a Klingon dictionary with it as well (Im sure it mentioned something about that in the book itself).

Overall, its a good book. Just dont buy it expecting to learn the language.

3.0 out of 5 stars A great book - but not for everybody 4 Aug 2010
Format:Paperback
I'm a huge fan of Marc Okrand, but...

If you're a die-hard trekkie and just have to know every subtle detail about the Klingon language and all its dialects, this is the book for you.

If you're a beginner, like me, who wants to learn how to say "Hello!" or "Where's the bar?" this is definitely NOT the book for you.

There is one good reason for buying this though: the dictionary section includes many new words that are not in the regular "Klingon Dictionary". If you can afford it, it's great to have this as a reference.

3.0 out of 5 stars For the hardcore fan 28 Jun 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this for my Mum as a lighthearted present for her birthday. I thought she would find it fun finding random words to say in Klingon, and assumed from the product description and a couple of reviews that it was a dictionary with phonetic spellings. The only way I can describe it is a School Book! It reminds my mum of her old language books at school. So, with that in mind, it is a descriptive and definate way to study the ins and outs of the Klingon Language in full, so as to become fluent in it. Not an over zealous dictionary as I had thought!
