Excellent sound, excellent buy 17 Mar 2006
By Redgecko - Published on
Format: Audio CD
The other reviewer's comments were so off-the-mark that I felt that I had to offset them. The sound on this disc is excellent, it is not recorded at a low level or diminished in any way. Perhaps the other reviewer has a manufacturer defect--it happens.

A generous sampling of Klami's best works recorded in 1996 in glorious DDD sound.

sound is fine! 4 Feb 2012

The sound of this disc, on my CD player, is fine. The performance is spirited and the conducting by this estimable musician sounds right on target (although I have not heard any other recordings of these works). I admit the Turku Phil. is not the last word in polished playing or tonal opulence but they get the job done here. In this case you can trust David Hurwitz's review on
Pretty much all the Klami you need 8 July 2012

He has written some symphonies and I had tried to get into one of those, no success. Though samples of Symphony 2 hold promise (still looking for cheap disc).

Terhenniemi of the kalevala suite is an instantly recognizanle tune. It has all the orchestral effects of Klami. The quiet and loud passages.

You can think of Klami as an overly melodramatic Sibelius, but they are very different in other ways too.

Cobblers on the heath Overture is worth looking up on other discs.

The playing is fine.

Good - too bad you can't hear it. 25 Oct 2007

No point belaboring this: I downloaded the Mp3 from Amazon, thinking that would avoid a possible problem such as the reviewer above had. No such luck. The music is audible and more or less enjoyable, but at about one-third the appropriate level, it's nothing I'd consider playing for others. I suggest you look elsewhere. (The Iceland Symphony has a new recording of this on the Chandos label)

terrible recording 26 May 2011
By bereac - Published on
Format: Audio CD
There is much fine music on this disc. The engineering is lousy. It is recorded at an extremely low level except for the forte passages which blast out at an unpleasantly loud and ear shattering volume. Avoid this disc!
