Product Description

CD Description

Debut album by Santa Dog, released by Quince Records, Japan.

"These tracks deserve to be flooding discos across the land, fuelling first shy glances, then furtive flirting, followed by head-over-heels romance as the young lovers remember Blondie, Echobelly, Sleeper and the Beatles. Someone buy the UK album license, Please!" --The Fly Magazine

"All pristine guitars chiming through a percussion section that is seamlessly tight yet energetic, but the alchemic secret of this pop gold dust is surely the silken tones of singer Rowena Dugdale - never needing to really stretch herself to produce an a wonderful sounding vocal track, which means the music as a whole never sounds contrived or forced. In fact the whole album is a testament to a band who are clearly at ease with themselves and with one another - this is an album of which they should be very proud." --Tasty Fanzine

"Santa Dog charm up melodic pop until it's classy enough to take out on the town..Kittyhawk gives off a good vibe, and maintains this positivity throughout. Take the candy-coated "Pop Coloured" with its "All I want to do/involves you" hook and holler, and you know it's just about time to dance. And then there's the single "Big Bang," and it's to-the-cosmos chorus pickup that will have you believing in whatever gospel Kittyhawk has." --Broken Dial (New York)

Kittyhawk is an engaging and well crafted collection of songs that proudly wear their influences yet manage to forge this into a cohesively unique sound.

Rowena Dugdale's glacial yet melt in your mouth vocals are married to streetwise lyrics and set to the incandescent pace of a very tight and equally gifted band.

The quality of songs throughout are very high and are infectiously catchy even after a number of listens.

If sun-kissed, upbeat pop tunes with a knowing, darker edge are your thing, I can unreservedly recommend Santa Dog.

I've never written a review before, which is probably a good thing for I'm no writer. But this CD makes me so happy and yet hardly anyone' heard of it. I came across two tracks - Big Bang and Belle de Jour on Youtube - by accident and went immediately to Amazon to make my purchase. The rest of the CD was of an equally high standard and I couldn't believe what I was listening to. How had I missed them? I put this CD on a par with The Stone Roses by The Stone Roses, and Hot Fuss by the Killers which are two of my all time favourites. Finding Kittyhawk has made my summer. It has intelligent lyrics, beautiful uplifting melodies, darkness, light, some cool guitar links and Rowena's voice is just captivating. Unfortunately the band is no longer together but Rowena and Rob Williams have formed a new band called Cue Fanfare and are working on an album which should be coming out soon. Can they do it again? We'll have to wait and see. Listen to Big Bang, Belle de Jour, Chemical, Pop Coloured.

'Kittyhawk'the debut album from Bristol based Santa Dog should be listened to on a daily basis by everyone who can appreciate, elegant, precisely honed and crafted music. It's an album packed with the very finest indie-pop-rock gems. Opening track the single 'Big Bang' has everything you look for in a great song, whistleable hooks, a tight as you like rhythm section, fantastic, shimmering guitar work of which the likes of Marr and McGuinn would be proud,a fully realised lyrical conceit and concept and Rowena Dugdale's warm, alluring and quintessentially English vocals. The rest of the album lives up to the high and exacting standard set by this opener. Unusually for an album which is unashameddly 'indie' it never strays into one pacedness or veers into the territory of the twee. Whilst superficially 'Kittyhawk' appears bright and breezy, sparkling with a lapidiary gleam, lyrically there is an intelligence and articulacy at work which sometimes borders on the dark and sinister. This album could well become one of my favourites of all time and I intend it to be the one I give all my friends for their birthday and Christmas presents. Utter gorgeousness from start to finish.
