As with all Kitchenaid accessories this is sturdy, well built and easy to fit to the mixer. However, it is fiddly to get the can to stay on the attachment and whilst this does cut the can quickly, it really is abit of a gadget that after a time will be left in a drawer somewhere.
There are better attachments to spend your money on like the grater or the grinder, and this opener isnt cheap (£45 at time of writing) and it really is no replacement for the simple manual can opener. If you do need an electric opener, may I suggest that you look at the Kenwood electric can opener which is a quarter of the price and is easier to use.

This is the attachment I use more than any other on my kitchenaid. In fact, I leave this attached. Every part of this is made with quality steel and the item is surprizingly heavy for its size. It never has a problem opening any can, even ones with dented rims, and the magnet holds the lid when you remove the can. It takes about 5 seconds to open any can and is easy to clean with a damp paper towel without removing it from the mixer. It stands out much farther than I expected (about 4 inches) from the machine, but I suppose that this is so the can won't come near the bowl or shield. It makes using the cover difficult to put on and even more difficult to remove, so I gave up on the cover. I haven't found a better can opener either manual or electric. I highly reccomend this.

Alas, my search for the perfect can opener is over! I have finally found it! This one is so easy to use and does a great job. It is also easy to store and doesn't take up any room. I have a small kitchen and can't afford to give up any counter space. I have several Kitchenaid products and have been pleased with each one. This can opener is another wonderful addition. I highly recommend it to anyone who has a Kitchenaid mixer and looking to puchase a quality can opener. You won't be sorry!
