I have aways wanted to have one of these, but considered it too expensive. However, I had thought the same about Magimix food processors as well, until I bought one and found that in that case, you really DO get what you pay for. Anyway, on the strength of that I decided to buy a Kitchenaid Artisan and I have to say I am absolutely thrilled with it. It ticks all the boxes! It is sturdy, quiet and versatile. I have made cakes, bread, naan bread, whipped cream and real custard, I have even made Yorkshire Pudding batter with it, (though don't tell my mother, she's convinced the ONLY way to make real yorkshire pudding batter is with a fork, lots of elbow grease and a supple wrist!!) It is very easy to use, easy to clean and actually even looks good sitting out on the work top.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this super piece of kit :)

I thought about ordering this many times, but as I already had a perfectly good mixer... I didn't.... what a mistake! The words Fantastic...just doesn't cut it... I did the usual kichenaid vs Kenwood torture... and although the Kenwood is great, and a really good workhorse... this is simply beautiful...I stare at it like a teenage boy would stare at a sports car. ... buy one! .. Oh and it works beautifully too!!

As a rather novice cook I needed equipment to help me in the kitchen.

The KitchenAid looks good, is easy to clean and speeds up my cooking. It has even allowed me to become more adventurous as my confidence has grown.

Cannot recommend it enough!

I received the brushed nickel version of this for my Christmas in 2007. I had wanted one for a long time! After a couple of weeks the pin holding the motor head to the base fell out while I was using it, damaging the bowl and beater. I was sent a replacement from Amazon. A few months later while using the mixer to knead dough I noticed the mixer head was unlocking and being pushed up by the dough. I phoned KitchenAid and they asked me to package it up and send it to them to be repaired. I got it back repaired a couple of weeks later. This same thing has happened again and it is due to be delivered back today. I have only used the machine about 7 or 8 times for kneading dough and have always been very careful to follow instructions on amounts et.c. I am amazed that something that looks and feels so sturdy (it weighs a ton) is so obviously not. I don't find that it performs particularly well in whipping egg whites or making cakes (there is always a layer next to the bowl that is unmixed and yes I have tried adjusting the beater to bowl clearance). I now if I want a good result get my handheld kenwood out (£15). I do however find the KitchenAid fine for whipping cream and mashing potato. I think these mixers look fantastic but really aren't very good.
If you do get one keep the packaging so can easily send it for repair!

A couple years ago my husband gave me this wonderful mixer as a Christmas gift. I have always loved to bake, and his mother is a great cook and we enjoy making things together. Without a mixer like this in our home, we spent a lot of time manually blending, beating and folding... at the time our daughter was in her mid-teen and was not very patient when it came to such 'manual labor'...

All that changed once this baby (in white) hit our kitchen countertop and got plugged in!!

This mixer makes baking even more fun then it was, and now our almost 19 year old girl rolls up her sleeves and jumps right in to help. From breads, to pies to pizza dough and awesome cookies, this thing just kicks you-know-what!! The added bonus is that it really looks nice and, since we have white cabinets too, looks great in the corner area of our counter.

Of course --- nothing is perfect... now we have to listen to my husband grump about the breads and cakes around the house, and the weight he says he has gained because we like to cook so much!!! Yep -- he blames that on us and the mixer... not on the fact the his treadmill is used as a coat rack! Still, when we do have a slow period, who do you think is the first to ask "Hey, have you thought about making a batch of treasure Cookies lately?". Uh, huh.

This mixer rocks, and it was (and still is) a great Christmas gift to receive. If you are looking for a mixer that will get the job done, we (me, my mother-in-law, our daughter, and my grumpy husband...) totally recommend this one!

Go for it you will not be sorry.

With my mother's Kitchenaid mixer still going strong after 20 years of use, I had great expectations when I finally got my own machine. Unfortunately, since day one I've had nothing but problems with it. For a start, the mixer beater shaft regularly sticks, making it next to impossible to attach or detach the beater without some struggle. The mixer attachment bolt cracked and had to be super-glued back together and, when mixing ingredients, there are always some left unmixed at the bottom of the bowl.

The main issue, however, has been that, similar to the experience of other reviewers, the pin that holds the motor head to the base constantly moves and has to been pushed back in whenever I use the machine. I finally had enough when the pin moved out faster than usual and ended up damaging the flat beater.

I called Kitchenaid's customer service and was told that it was "normal" for the pin to move and I needed to tighten a screw in the base. When I mentioned the damage to the beater I was told that, as the warranty had allegedly expired on my machine I would have to pay for a replacement. Given the cost and reputed quality of these mixers I cannot accept that a moving pin is either normal or acceptable. If it is a not fault then it is definitely a design flaw that does not seem to be an issue in older Kitchenaid models.

Although the mixer does look good and does a reasonable job mixing cakes, batters, egg whites etc, the overall quality of the product and customer service is very disappointing.
