An excellent toy! Bought for processing a glut of tomatoes - this deseeded a large tub of puree with no problems - though it was never going to be a very quick job.

I was sad to read the few negative reviews. I think most of them seem to display a basic error - the grating plate was installed upside down. Some clearer instructions would certainly have helped - but don't blame the tool if you haven't managed to work out how to use it!

I had one which looked exactly the same as the photo and, when it arrived, I thought it would perform in exactly the same way. However, it doesn't because the blade which presses the food down on the metal sieve-like plate doesn't do it as effectively. I'm trying to work out why and I think the it's a combination of the spring being not forceful enough and the black metal disc underneath the blade being too thick.

Whatever - the pressure just isn't enough to push all the food through, resulting in quite a bit of wastage. I then have to take a wooden spoon and press more through by hand, which I never had to do with my last one.

The only reason I replaced the last one (which I'd had for around 30 years) was that the metal parts became rusty, whereas this one is made of stainless steel, so should last longer. However I'm not sure that I will hang on to it that long.

The basic design is one which I saw in France many, many years ago and it was called a mouli-legume. I would have thought that a tried and tested design would work fine as usual. I was wrong.

A mouli isn't a food processor, so you do get lots of bits left behind. It works really well and I don't mind that its made of plastic as I initially thought I would. I bought it for making baby food that needs to leave behind the indigestible skins and this does the job perfectly.

This Food Mill is an identical replacement to the one that I had a few years ago and just like it's predecessor it is EXCELLENT and makes the perfect mashed potato!

This food mill has made easy work of processing a bumper apple crop. Putting the cooked apples through the fine setting mill makes straining the pulp through a jelly bag much easier and quicker. I'll be trying it next on the bumper crop of blackcurrants still in the freezer. It's easy to wash and while the plastic body might not last as long as the more expensive metal ones it won't rust or discolour. All-in-all a very good buy.

I haven't actually used this new purchase as yet, but it is identical to one I had many years ago which was brill.
I use it mainly for really smooth soups and purees. It's especially good for getting all the skins and seeds from tomatoes away from the pulp. My children are all grown up but I found it really useful when weaning onto solid food, all the lumpy bits of beans and seeds etc can be kept out of the baby's dish and therefore make the transition to solids easy.A good purchase, relatively easy to seperate and clean.
