Simply doesn't create curls! We run a B&B and serve little curls of fresh butter rather than foil wrapped individual portions, and our last curler broke after a good period of faithful service. This item just doesn't do it. After much wasted butter, frustration and various abstract butter shapes, I finally tracked down one like our original in a local kitchen shop. Back in the curling business! The product we use is very similar to this: Kitchen Craft Butter Curler, Stainless Steel

There must be a knack to using this as while I've made quite a few wavy lines of butter, I've yet to make a decent curl. It feels well made, has no nasty sharp edges to accidentally cut yourself on or crannies for the dirt to hide in and does produce some interesting shapes of butter, but I can't yet claim any success in making neat little swirls with it. I can say it works best with cold butter, straight from the fridge, as butter at room temperature is too soft to go into any useful shape and avoid being crushed into a mush. More practice may be required!

The idea was to make butter curls when I have guests, so not an every day item. However butter has to be very, very cold before it works and even then has to be helped to curl with a finger as it's not deep enough or rounded sufficiently to do this itself. Suggest you try another model with more of a curve to it.

A great little invention. Why is it that the simpler the design, the more useful it turns out to be? I use it every week to make butter curls to go in the plastic pots that I also think are brilliant.

This is a good little tool which does what its supposed to do, my only gripe was that the postage actually cost twice as much as the item - my fault really as I didn't notice it.

I'll be darned if i can get a true curl, but frankly that was never the point of this purchase for me.It will give me shavings of real butter out of the fridge that doesn't rip my toast to pieces. These things matter on a cold morning, to me anyway, as my teacher used to say, despairingly, "small things amuse small minds"

An easy to use handy butter curler. As others have said, butter needs to stand for a while brefore using but with a bit of trial and error you can produce some nice curls. Very pretty.
