A bit fragile 26 Aug 2011

The crisp maker is very compact, and packs down into a surprisingly small box. The design is ingenious, and once you get the knack the potato slicer is very easy to use (but do be careful of the blade which is very sharp). But it is a bit fragile all round, and I found that even after seven minutes in an 800 watt microwave, a good half of the slices were still soft and soggy. The ones that were completely cooked were very tasty, nice and crispy, so I would say that it will do the job if you make sure you do not fill the holding rack with slices but leave every other one empty. It would have been nice to have some suggestions for flavourings, too. If you have lots of spare time to make your crisps, this would be a good way to do it, but if like me you are providing them to at least two kids every time you'd better get started early...

Easy to use but you do need some strength to cut the potato and once you find the right time for your microwave they turn out great. We use a 800 watt microwave and it takes 6 minutes for the crisps to be cooked without burning. There is no plastic taste and different potatoes give different tastes. One tip I would give is to dry each slice slightly with kitchen roll before putting into the microwave and season after they are cooked.

fantastic 14 Mar 2012
By vixbr
I ordered this after a friend had purchased the more expensive version and had a taste of her crisps. I was doubtful they could taste good out of a microwave! I was wrong. This one is extremely good value and works as good as hers.
I find that cutting the potato in half then using fingers slice it (with the slicer included) until about an inch or so left and then use the holder obviously being careful of fingers. I then laid the slices out on kitchen paper and salted with coarse salt. Lay another sheet of kitchen roll on top and roll over with a rolling pin. This gets rid of excess water and the salt doesn't fall off as much. Put in the microwave, mine is 850 and 5 mins was perfect, models vary of course. Then leave for two mins and the crisps firm up. all my batches have been perfect following this route. I have just found out to make salt and vinegar mix them together in a small bowl until absorbed and then sprinkle on the crisps. As yet to have done this but will give it a go otherwise i shall be purchasing salt and vinegar seasoning!! I am so pleased i have ordered 2 more for friends.

Be careful with other vegetables like sweet potatoes,
they shrink away and burn if left too long.

Not as good as we hoped
While this does make very good crisps you do need to mess with the timings a bit in order to achieve the desired result. Might just be down to the microwave though.
