3.0 out of 5 stars Not good in a microwave, 31 Jul 2009
By Roger (Colchester) - See all my reviews
Microwave ovens of course have advantages of speed and convenience for many foods, but not always - sadly many manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon producing devices like this to kid us that anything will be easier and faster.

If you use this device to poach eggs in a microwave you will probably be disappointed; cooking is very uneven. It will help to place a microwave cover over it, and better results will be obtained by standing it on a plate with a spoon of water on it - but then it's getting a bit too troublesome. I have found that lower microwave settings improve things slightly but that takes longer - and no matter what I try, the edges tend to overcook.

Interestingly, the makers acknowledge you can use it in a pan of water, the traditional way; this produces better results. Actually, there is nothing simpler than breaking an egg directly into a pan of boiling water, but this does have the advantage of keeping a neat, round final result. Again, things are improved by covering the pan, and the results are then acceptable.

Cleaning afterwards is a bit of a pain, especially if the microwave has left burnt-on yoke splatters. Best to stick it in a dishwasher.

If you want good-looking poached eggs, you'd be better off buying a proper hob-type egg poacher, preferably one with a non-stick coating. If you're attracted by the microwave claim, you'll be disappointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work very well, 23 Jul 2009

This product doesn't come with any instructions and frankly doesn't cook eggs very well. They're usually over cooked at the bottom and undercooked at the top. Frankly a disappointment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best egg poacher in the whole world for less than 3 quid, 30 Oct 2009
By Mr. Ow Barber - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I spent many years trawling the far corners of the world for an affordable, dynamic, efficient and breathtaking way to poach my eggs. My search is now at an end. I would have had this device gold-dipped but the plastic would melt.

This device won't cure cancer or stop you from getting swine flu but I am convinced it will do wonders for your sex life and bring you closer to God. BUY IT NOW.
