Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

This stainless steel maslin pan is perfect for making home made preserves such as jam, marmalade and chutney. It can also be used as a stockpot for soup. The pan has an encapsulated base which provides an even heat distribution when cooking. It also includes a useful measuring gauge for measuring ingredients and liquids. The maslin pan has been designed for ease of use and includes features such as a pouring spout, sturdy carry handle with easy pour helper handle.
For a home made preserve, why not try a plum and apple jam. Ingredients include 750g plums, 750g apples (peeled and cored), 450ml water and 1.5kg sugar. Simply wash the plums and apples and place in a maslin pan with water. Cook the fruit slowly until the skins of the plums are softened. Add the sugar, stir over low heat until dissolved, bring to the boil and boil rapidly until setting point is reached. Remove the stones as they rise to the surface. Then remove from the heat, skim off any residue and spoon mixture into a clean jar, seal and label.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kitchen Craft Maslin Pan, 24 Aug 2009
By C. LAWSON-DUCKETT (UK) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)
My old aluminium one turned into a receptacle for catching used engine oil without my knowledge or consent so no, I didn't want it back. This one is a treasure, bigger than they used to be, capacity markings on the inside and angled so that the sugar thermometer stands virtually upright without slipping. The handle stays firmly upright too and is tall enough to be lifted with bare hand without burning or resorting to obscenity or blasphemy. Whilst you still need protection in the hand holding the other handle, the pouring lip is correctly shaped for splash free pouring into the funnel which allows all the jars to be filled before the cooked jam actually freezes. The cooking heat is evenly distributed so you can move more than two feet from the cooker without the jam catching and producing those interesting carbon chunks so endearingly reminiscent grandma's jam forced down in childhood.

as the advert says, it does what it says on the tin!. my only criitiscm is that it could do with an extra handle for the weight.

Brilliant - perfect heat distribution results in great jam every time. Useful handle on the side helps with pouring the jam out when it's done. Good price, too :)
