Freezer Thermometer 19 Jun 2011
I bought this after a freezer disaster due to an RCD failure. The unit looks good in place, and displays the temperature accurately. However, it is very sensitive to sensor placement in the freezer. The suction cup is vulnerable, being easily displaced by drawer movement, and needs glueing in place for safety (don't use superglue!) Even though I now have it safely positioned, the alarm activates randomly, even though the temperature remains at -20C! As this is a rare event, and the use of glue prevents me returning the item, i can at least switch off the alarm and rely on the display. A successful, if partial answer to my freezer problem!

The Thermometer attaches on the side of the freezer and is quick and easy to see. Gives peace of mind to know food is being kept at the correct temperature

The difficulty I have with this item is finding an effective way of routing the sensor cable past the freezer door seal without letting warm moist air into the freezer. The cable is small, just a couple of millimetres, but has a circular cross-section. When it is fitted, it breaks the door seal, although the gap is very slight, it is enough to cause lots of ice formation inside the freezer. While you might not see the problem quite so badly in a fridge, it will be costing you money as the compressor will be running longer to compensate for the ingress or warm air.

It would be much better to have a flat cable to avoid this problem.

Other than that the unit, is simple in operation and the alarm is quite loud enough to draw your attention.

I'm going to get my scalpel out to see if I can reduce the profile of the cable insulation.
