The KitSound Sound Stand
Surround sound from twin dynamic Neodymium speakers and SRS technology

Introducing The KitSound Sound Stand

The KS Sound Stand is a lightweight, portable speaker which provides surround sound either on the move or as a smart desktop stand.

High Quality Surround Sound

Because he wanted his audiences to feel as though the orchestra was actually in the theatre with them, Walt Disney gave cinema-goers a completely new, immersive film-viewing experience by using surround sound in his 1940 film ‘Fantasia’. 70 years on and the KS Sound Stand, lets you watch films and listen to music in surround sound on your tablet or mobile.

Thanks to its twin dynamic Neodymium speakers and Sound Retrieval System (SRS) technology, you can rest assured that your media is being given the platform it deserves. With a number of advantages over conventional ceramic magnet speakers, Neo magnets increase efficiency as well as lowering distortion. Despite the fact that these speakers are lightweight, they have a high output, while SRS technology ensures great quality surround sound.

Originally invented by Arnold Klayman in the early 1980s, SRS technology applies head-related transfer functions to create an immersive 3D soundfield. Using only two speakers it widens the ‘sweet spot’ to create a more spacious sense of ambience, producing strong localisation cues for discrete instruments within an audio mix.

Create Your Own Home Cinema System

If you love watching films in surround sound, the Sound Stand is ideal for when you are away from home, especially considering your device can be positioned at a comfortable angle for either landscape or portrait viewing. So aside from lugging around four floor-to-ceiling speakers and a 42” plasma TV, the KS Sound Stand is the closest you’ll get to a home cinema system when you’re on-the-go.

Ultra Light and Portable

The Sound Stand’s Neodymium speakers make it a lightweight speaker system which is extremely comfortable to carry, especially if you position the speaker above or below your device. What makes it even more portable, are its foldable wings which not only provide a stable desktop stand by holding your device firmly in place with adjustable clips, but also fold back so you can take the surround sound with you. So if you’re feeling inspired by the ‘Lunch Beats’ craze which caught on in Sweden after a group of 14 friends got together in 2012 to party to a 60-minute DJ set, you could even take the Sound Stand to work and have an hour-long rave during your lunch break. Although your work colleagues might not be so happy about that, unless of course they’re from Sweden.

Compact, Compatible and Long-Lasting

Measuring just H 70 mm x W 185 mm x D 40 mm, not only is the Sound Stand compact, but it also has a built-in rechargeable battery to give you the freedom to take your music with you wherever you go. Lasting up to 4 hours, the battery takes just 2 to recharge by plugging the supplied USB cable into a laptop, USB mains charger or USB car charger, so you can spend less time waiting to hear your tunes and more time listening to them. The 3.5 mm jack and stereo cable also ensure easy connection to most portable audio devices, so you can have surround sound whether you’ve got an iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, tablet or Smartphone.

About KitSound

We are craftspeople. We are musicians. We are KitSound and we all commit ourselves to achieving one shared goal: Bringing people closer to their music. By understanding music we stay true to its craft. Pure, rich, incredible sound. We settle for nothing less.

At KS, we believe your music deserves to be listened to on great quality products that don’t cost the earth. We might not all share the same taste in music (the ferocious disputes on music forums prove that), but whether it’s Irish folk, death metal or any number of obscure genres which seem to be multiplying by the minute, the artists responsible for connecting with you through their craft have bared their souls to do so, and we think that’s worth celebrating.

The KitSound Surround Sound Speaker Stand for Tablet/Smartphone etc. is for me a perfect buy mainly because it is such a small and neat stand which is so easy to store especially when travelling. It is charged using your USB connection through your computer and shows a red light while doing so.
It has been used for my Samsung Galaxy S plus my Kindle Fire HD and provided me with a good clear audible experience which I would happily compare to much more expensive speakers as the sound provided was clear and could easily be controlled using your device.
There are no instructions included, personally I do not believe they were not needed as within the clear plastic box there are two cables included and each of them are simple to work out what they are provided for. The one with the USB end has another one which fits neatly into the bottom of the speaker which is used to recharge the Kitsound Surround Sound Speaker, also where there is another small hole this where the 3.5mm jack lead fits neatly which fits neatly into your many devices which are provided with this fitting which provides the music to the speaker. With this speaker being rechargeable was a plus for me as I can use the speaker etc. in any surroundings without needing any other power supply. I do believe this will be very useful when on holiday or at the beach as a full charge does give at least 6-8 hours playing time.
Why I do love this Surround Speaker it is also got two small wings which provide a stand which also supports the devices at a straight angle I have used without blocking any of my vision especially when I was using my Kindle Fire HD while watching Lovefilm plus BBCI player. You can also fix the stand that it holds the device at a slight angle.

I had this item on my wish list for a short while, toyed with ordering it payday. Luckily i didn't as a local well known supermarket had it at less than a tenner!! How lucky was i? Okay well now the review part. If i had bought it for near £30 i would have been disappointed. It's a smaller unit than i expected for a start and i did wonder if i'd bought the same item until i got it home. Soundwise it is acceptable at lower volumes but max it out and it sounds as if it's strangled. The music, in this instance, sounded as if it was struggling to get out. Not played anything else through it but primarily it is for music. Without the SRS switched on it's almost mono as the speakers are relatively close together. Guess i'll just have to keep the volume down. Good buy for a tenner.

My Kindle Fire HD fits neatly into the two slots and the padded securing screws hold it firmly in place. Considering the small size of the device the quality of wrap around sound, even at high volume levels, is excellent - particularly when it's using the SRS setting. Volume is controlled, of course, from the Kindle screen or the volume control button on the side of the device.

A lead connects the Speaker Stand, very efficiently, to the Kindle whilst a second lead enables the unit to be charged from the USB port on my laptop. A tiny light shows when the unit is connected. I haven't, however, come across any way of telling the charging level of the internal battery.

The unit is ideal for listening to music downloaded to the Kindle or Amazon Cloud - and you can also, by letting the Kindle read to you, listen to downloaded books!

Is there a criticism? Yes, but very minor...

For obvious reasons my Kindle lives in a Amazon Kindle Fire HD Standing Leather Cover which, when the Kindle is installed in the Speaker Stand, results in a combination that's slightly top-heavy. But you can easily avoid that issue by simply laying the Kindle on a table and plugging it into the Speaker Stand...

When I initially bought the Kitsound surround sound stand, I was looking for a normal stand for my iPad so I could watch films through my headphones without having to hold the iPad or prop it up with a make shift stand (Ie. A pair of socks or a creative use of bending cardboard or a coke can). As I was looking on Amazon, I found this. Not only had I found the stand which I was looking for, I had found a speaker which emulates the surround sound quality of a film. This feature had me interested. I knew I couldn't pass up something so unique looking and innovative, I had to buy it.

The product arrived in a simple, well-presented box. The features clearly stated. I was eager to listen to the surround sound quality in which Kitsound marketed. On opening, the package came with some simple instructions, a mini USB cable for charging, a 3.5mm jack cable and the surround sound stand itself. I took the speaker out and had a look at the build quality and was impressed, it felt very sturdy and looked simple enough to operate. The plastic was coated in a soft touch material. I find that any product which has this kind of texture always feels like a quality product. The cables were pretty standard but fitted the bill for what they were needed for.

I placed my iPad in the stand and adjusted the grips for a snug fit, I found that as the iPad has curved edges, the grips do slide off if wound too tight, but obviously, when it is free standing, this isn't much of a problem. I now just place the iPad in without tightening them - I only wind them to adjust the viewing angle of the screen.

The stand had to on settings on it `ON' and `SRS'. The `ON' position just used the standard mono output setting on it. I tried this out first.
