Product Description

Wake up in the morning wanting some bass? Then start your day the KitSound way with the Boom Clock.

Before busting some shapes (or whatever you get up to) in dream world, select a tune that you know will get you going in the morning and set the wake up time and volume.

The Boom Clock is just the right size for your bedside table, making it the serious choice for your boudoir.

The featured sub woofer and sound quality means that it is just right kicking back or rocking out.

We have jammed in RF shielding, which means that you do not need to put your iPhone into flight mode when it is docked. This means that if somebody needs to get hold of you in the middle of the night, they can (unless you don't want them to, of course)

Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Length: 9:09 Mins
I don't think there's much to say that my video doesn't demonstrate. It sounds good and it seems to do a good job of all the things it's meant to do. I would recommend it.

The following observations are the only things I can think to add:

- Obviously you can't hear the sound quality well enough through the soundtrack of my compressed video to really tell the difference between CD and the dock. To me they sounded the same at the time. On the .avi (high quality) version of the video the dock sounded harsher while the CD player sounded softer and more bland. It's hard to say what sounds better. The dock probably sounds better at first but might be more fatiguing to listen to for a long time.

- The top of the dock attracts fingerprints.

- If the clock hasn't been set (for example, because you have unplugged it to move the dock into another room) it doesn't flash annoyingly to get your attention. Instead the display reads "00:00" and stays solid instead of flashing.

- The subwoofer at the bottom vibrates a lot and makes the tabletop vibrate a little bit as well.

- It's slow to navigate the iPod menus using the remote. I doubt you would do that much anyway as usually you would be too far away to see the screen. If you're close enough it's quicker to just use your hands on the iPod directly.

- The dock keeps track of the day of the week so the alarm clock can be set to automatically not go off on the weekend. The buzzer tone will be played if there is no iPod in the dock when the alarm is meant to sound.

- The front panel can be dimmed by pressing the sleep button as there are three different levels of brightness to choose between. Unfortunately all three settings are too bright in a darkened room. You wouldn't want it pointed at you as you try to sleep. I've had to point it away from me. It brightens up the rest of the room at night, but you should get used to that. [Edit 29/8/10: I'm now placing a VHS tape in front of it to keep my room dark at night. It might not be the most elegant solution but it works.]

- The mains adapter is a shorter lead than I expected.

- From the Apple FAQ website: "Question: Should I leave iPod connected to the charger or in the dock whenever I'm not using it? Answer: The battery stops charging when it's full. Leaving it connected won't charge it any more. It's perfectly OK to leave it connected so it can charge overnight."

Kitsound BoomClock 20 Oct 2010

Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
i recently had just got my new iPhone 4, so why not have a new clock radio speaker? The speaker is about the average size of your clock radio, and a bit smaller than similar iPhone speakers on the market. It has a gloss black plastic exterior on top and bottom of the unit. Around the middle is the material that you find over speakers and this wraps around the front and 2 sides even though the only speakers are located only on the front as you may be able to see from the photo. Underneath is the bass speaker, hidden quite well, with four feet at each corner providing room for the bass to escape so you can hear it clearly.

On top of the unit is where you find the buttons to control the speaker. The buttons are distributed symmetrically on the unit with 5 buttons located either side of the iPhone connector. This allow you to control the volume, alarm clock, radio and also the power of the unit. There is one last button which is a snooze button which is located just above the front lcd display. The display can be set to show the input source, the time (12 or 24 hour), date and day, all of which can be set by using the buttons on the top, with instructions provided inside the box. A small remote control about the size of a matchbox is provided and can control everything in the same way the buttons can as well as pausing/playing and skipping songs, something you have to press the touchscreen on the iPhone for.

The instruction manual is very easy to read, with it not being too long, but being quite informal and relaxed compared to what you may be use to reading. Everything that you could need to know is covered, including even the basic controls.

The sound quality is quite impressive for the size of the speaker. For the purpose, usually a bedroom?, you don't want to have crystal clear sound with pitch perfect bass, you want to be able to hear it well, and even turn it up loud when you feel like it, which I think it is perfect for.

Charging is automatic when you place it on the connector. Sometimes I get a message saying that this accessory isn't supported, but this is usually if it isn't connected properly. Just lift it up and replace it and you should have no worries!

A few oversights 26 Jan 2011
By Dalek W
Just a bit disappointed that for an alarm clock that there is no internal or external battery back-up. So if there is an electrical interruption you will have to reprogram the current time, alarm time and FM frequecies.
Also there is or was no dedicated iphone 4 holder /adaptor plate, there where plenty of other Apple device adapter plates. Leaving the iphone4, when connected, very vulnerable to getting the connector damaged should you accidently catch or knock it. I expect a dock or cradle to securely hold the device while lining it up for the connectors involved.
Sounds okay and the remote has a very good range, These things could always do with a better aerial wire.
