I've always seen Bluetooth headphones as being too expensive; quite difficult to set up and pair; and worse in terms of sound quality and clarity. Having said that, the portability of them has always been a big draw, especially as I go to the gym and do a lot of outdoor work where being free of loose cables is a big advantage.

Seeing the KitSound Manhattans for £35, I thought I would take a punt. At that price it's not too risky an investment and I previously bought the KitSound BoomDock - which is absolutely incredible - so I already know and trust the brand. I'm glad to report that I have no regrets doing this either, and I'm definitely a new convert to the power of Bluetooth!

Right from the start, the headphones were incredibly easy to set up and pair with my phone (there are good instructions for anyone who does get stuck) and it took less than a minute before I could start listening to my music, which sounds absolutely incredible: the treble is crisp, bass is nice and deep, and distortion is kept to a bare minimum.

They are also very comfortable to wear and highly practical. The soft, leather-effect ear cups feel good and the headband sits comfortably on the head (not pinching like other higher-end brands that I've tried in the past), while still looking streamlined and providing good noise isolation. The material used is also very lightweight without feeling flimsy, and they fold away neatly for when it comes to taking them off.

Only other points are that battery life on the headphones is good, and the reception range seems to be fairly strong as well.

All I can say is that the KitSound Manhattans have definitely changed my preconceptions of the Bluetooth headphone. I'm not too sure whether other brands will live up to these standards now, but if you are looking to join the club, then I would definitely not look any further than these.

Once I bent the metal band out a bit as they were too tight on my head, these headphones 'lock on' straight away and sound excellent with a punchy and deep bass and clear top end. The build quality is superb for this price point. They also come with a lead to make them into a wired headset. You can answer calls with these and dictate texts, but this can be hit and miss as the microphone is obviously not that close to your mouth.

The two three star reviews on here are not anything to do with the sound (in fact one of them is not to do with anything!) and the rest are five, so how many recommendations do you need to read before treating your ears!

The Bluetooth function works well. The product is not expensive. It is purple, and it works. I will happily buy another when the pleasures of a Scottish winter inevitably lay this one to rest.

I received my pair of manhattans pretty quickly. Thanks, Amazon :)

I noticed right away even as I started opening the box that this was a nice experience - it felt like i was taking part in something special. The presentation of the headphones inside the inner tray coupled with the nice feel and colouring to the card felt kinda premium.

The bluetooth pairing is really simple, actually. I was pleased to find that I had them connected within 2 minutes of opening the box.

Now, the first few things I look for with headphones is two fold: sound, then comfort.

So let's start with the sound. Impressive. Especially for a headphone of its size.

Handles bass extremely well which is a big tick for me being a massive DnB fan. I would say keeping the volume around 90-95% is optimal as you do start to get some slight distortion. Which is pretty common to most audio products.

Trebles are decent. In my experience a pair of headphones really excels in either bass or treble, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Manhattans meet half-way. It's a pretty even split.

The audio is clean, minimal distortion at 95%. But it does really come down to the track you're playing so make sure your device tunes are top quality and you'll definitely rate these headphones.

Oh, wow. I just worked out how to turn the volume up and down. For a second I thought it was controlled via the device alone, but these headphones have a built-in multi-function button that allows you to use the same controls for both skipping/pausing track and turning the volume up and down. Once you get used to it its really easy, and this is ideal for somebody constantly on the move as you don't have to go diving into your pockets.

The range isn't bad.
