All you '50s purists lay out for a while: there are alot of fine tracks here.
Yes, if "Mystery Train" and "Jailhouse Rock" and "Suspicious Minds" is your litmus test for active-minded Presley listening, then maybe you want to set out on the back porch while others crack a smile and maybe even tap a foot to the title tune of "Kissin' Cousins" (the 45 rpm version, especially), a very strong uptempo with biting guitars and a beefy double-tracked vocal; to "Once Is Enough" a country jazzer, poorly balanced soundwise like several in this triple set, but catchy no doubt. "Catchin' On Fast" is funky little number - too bad they didn't also include the movie version. "Tender Feeling" ofcourse is based on an old folk melody but is beautifully realized. There are several tunes here when heard out-of-context don't really work but Elvis digs in on all of 'em.
"Clambake" has three good songs - the melodic ballads "The Girl I Never Loved", "A House That Has Everything", and a lopsided dance number, "Hey Hey Hey". Strangely, the bad mix (placing the lead vocal too far forward) actually works on these! Additionally, Elvis has voice problems here, but the tracks are worth hearing.
"Stay Away, Joe", one Presley's last soundtracks, has another tune derived from the classics ("Greensleeves") and although it's well-produced, once again it's not big El at his best. The country blues "All I Needed Was The Rain" *is* Elvis at his best, a soulful performance. "Goin' Home" is a fast rhythm with a powerful vocal. The Native American effects are beautifully blended.

Since the age of 12 years old in 1980, I've always had a soft-spot for the soundtrack of this 1964 Elvis movie in which he plays a dual role. I'm not a great fan of his movie soundtrack era but nothing has diminished my liking of 'Kissin' Cousins', 'Kissin' Cousins No. 2', 'Smokey Mountain Boy', 'There's Gold In The Mountains', 'One Boy, Two Little Girls', 'Cathin' On Fast', 'Tender Feeling', 'Anyone', 'Barefoot Ballad' and 'Once Is Enough'. This soundtrack very much charms me to the bone even at this tender age of 39, and I don't feel one bit embarrassed about my admiration for the songs and Elvis' interpretation of them. I recollect the original album release which also featured two 1963 bonus rarities in the form of 'Long Lonely Highway' and 'Echoes of Love' which filled out the album beautifully.

However, "Clambake" and "Stay Away Joe" are two different stories - the movie of "Clambake" certainly isn't one of my favourites and that's also due to the likes of the songs 'Who Needs Money?', 'Confidence', and 'Hey, Hey, Hey' but to balance it out there's 'You Don't Know Me', 'The Girl I Never Loved' and a great bluesy 'How Can You Lose What You Never Had' which are a good listen. "Stay Away Joe" was quite a fun movie in it's day, and I suppose the melodic 'Stay Away' and the blues of 'All I Needed Was The Rain' are the stand-outs here.

This was a good move from Sony/BMG to double/triple up with these Elvis movie soundtracks and overall this one comes highly recommended. I like it better than "Girl Happy"/"Harum Scarum"!

This "Triple-Features" CD containing songs from the so-so "Kissin Cousins", rubbish "Clambake" and excellent "Stay Away Joe" has a lot of the usual soundtrack candy-floss tracks. But, more importantly some excellent tracks that are unavailable elsewhere.

From "Kissin Cousins" the only good song, is the really beautiful "Tender Feeking." This country ballad is sung to the music of "Shenandoa" and is a favourite of mine.

From "Clambake", nothing really, "You Don't Know Me" is the Eddy Arnold classic, sung well by Elvis. But he re-recorded this a little later and really surpassed himself with a mesmorising vocal.

From "Stay Away Joe", and you shouls see this crazy film, "All I Needed Was The Rain" is an excellent gentle blues, with wailing harmonica and easy going guitar. "Stay Away", again like "Tender Feeling" the backing track is this time "Greensleeves", I like this track a lot.

Well there you have it, a few good tracks out of 24, hardly value for money, but for collectors this is a good CD.
