More About the Author

Pam Howes was born in Cheshire. She is a retired Interior Designer who began writing seriously about fourteen years ago. The idea for her first novel, set in the sixties, was inspired by her time as a teenager, working in a local record store and hanging around with musicians who frequented the business. That first novel evolved into a series set in the fictional town of Pickford, based on her home town of Stockport. Three Steps to Heaven; 'Til I Kissed You; Always On My Mind; Not Fade Away, and That'll Be The Day, follow the lives and loves through the decades of fictional Rock'n'Roll band The Raiders. Pam is a big fan of sixties music and it's this love that compelled her to write the series. A stand-alone true-life romance, Fast Movin' Train, set in the nineties, was published in early 2012. A new series of Fairground Romances, set in the sixties, begins with Cathy's Clown, to be followed by Ruby Tuesday late 2014. Pam is mum to three adult daughters, grandma to seven assorted grandchildren, and roadie to one musician partner. She still lives in Cheshire and also writes short stories and poems which have appeared in charity anthologies and online e-zines. She is currently involved in raising awareness of her hometown's musical heritage with campaigns to have Blue Plaques erected on the walls of local clubs, The Manor Lounge and The Sinking Ship, where the likes of The Walker Brother's, The Who and Jimi Hendrix played; now closed, but still firmly in the hearts of Stockport's recycled teenagers.

Update: By popular demand, there will be a sixth Raiders' novel. You Better Move On will be published in spring 2015.

All books are available in Kindle format, paperback, and Fast Movin' Train is also available as an audio book.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Raiders Rock Again! 15 July 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the second book in the series, and what a melting pot of action it is!
We catch up with Eddie Mellor and the Cantello family, some 20 years on from the first book. It is a smooth transition, with reminders of the important points from series one and written in the same, chatty plot driven style, with plenty of twists and turns.
Set in the eighties, I was perhaps a little more in tune with the era than the first book, and I have to admire the author's skill in keeping the mechanics of those times firmly rooted where they should be within the context of the story.
Great references to Live Aid, pubs in Stockport and Simon Le Bon. Some nice humour; I especially liked the line about the estate agent's teeth not looking out of place in Red Rum's mouth!
This book centers more on the family relationships than the first one; with affairs, surprise pregnancies, a tragic bereavement, sexual discovery and a brother-sister relationship. There's a lot going on, but hey this is rock n roll and The Raiders don't live a quiet life!
Typical of those times, The Raiders are planning a reunion. In the midst of this, Roy Cantello has a midlife crisis and gets himself in a mess with Olivia. The Mellor family are not left out, remember the controversy surrounding Jon's parentage? I liked the thread about Jon and Jess, thinking they were related and falling in love. There is a nice build up to the denouement when they learn the truth.
Yes, Roy is a weak, very naughty boy in this one and there is a lot of cheating, but for me the real hero is loyal, steady Eddie and he provides a nice balance to Roy's philandering. I thought Olivia was painted rather well, and the scenario between Sammy, Olivia and Roy, whether you agree with their action's or not, are, I suspect, typical of that lifestyle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another wallow in nostalgia! 9 Jun 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the second book in the trilogy - the first one being Three Steps To Heaven. Again this was a compelling read with tangled webs and secrets just waiting to burst out. I cannot believe how some of these people got away with cheating on their families. It is interesting to follow the lives of the 'Raiders' now that they are grown with children of their own. I got stuck into this like a pot of glue. Thanks again Pam!'Til I Kissed You (Pam Howes Rock'n'Roll Romance Series)

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED ALL 3 BOOKS! 18 Sep 2011
If you are reading this review, you must read all three books. Another reviewer said she felt lost after finishing all 3 books, that is exactly how I felt. I NEED another book. I became attached to the characters and couldn't wait to find out more about what was happening in their lives. I loved that I was continually being suprised; there were so many twists and turns: never a dull moment. There is such a flow and ease to reading all three books that it is truly difficult to stop reading. I found myself thinking about the characters when I wasn't reading the books. I CANNOT wait for the next book!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars a worthy sequel 13 May 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
`Till I kiss you' takes up the story Pam Howes began in `three steps to heaven' book one in this excellent trilogy. Book 2 follows the Mellor and Cantello families through a turbulent year in the mid 1980s. As with book 1, this book is full of tangled romances, heartbreaking tragedy and rock n role.
I really enjoy this series, Pam Howes has managed to draw sympathetic believable characters and a riveting plot and things are set up nicely for the final book in the series.
I would strongly recommend anyone to read `three steps...' before reading this book as there is a key plot strand that was revealed at the end of book 1 which is taken forward here.
This is a long book and would be ideal for a summer holiday read.
Great stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars 'til I Kissed You 5 Jan 2011
By juggles
This is the sequel to 'Three Steps To Heaven' which you must read first. Pam Howes is a very talented writer and 'til I Kissed You' does not disappoint, I read this one non-stop over two days, even whilst brewing coffee after coffee, I just couldn't put it down. Howes takes us on a roller coaster ride along with the characters. I can't wait for the next one which is the third of a trilogy.
Hope Bennett's review does not give too much away!!
