Having read a few negative comments on US review sites regarding transfer quality of this blu ray title I decided to buy it anyway as it was very cheap on amazon's 3 for 2 offer.
Either the US release is a different transfer or the reviewers do not know what they are talking about. This looks and sounds great!
You have to bear in mind some films have a certain look,(lighting, filming techniques, film stock, post processing etc.) and will not always look as good as Mamma Mia or Die Hard 4.0.
It annoys me when I read 'not much better than upscaled dvd', as it clearly shows the level of understanding the viewer has of high definition and video display equipment in general.
I always make a dvd/bd comparison on many different scenes and even different days, and here find once again that the blu ray clearly outshines the dvd, with no visible flaws present.
O.K. it is what it is, a formulaic Jet Li vehicle pitting him up against a corrupt police department boss, played by Tcheky Karyo from
Nikita [Blu-ray] [1990.
It also has some most impressive fight sequences early on in, you guessed it, a large restaurant kitchen, (the Luc Besson touch shows!).
The (uninspired) extras are pared down from the original dvd, although I feel the upgrade to 1080p/DTS-MA outweighs that.
Not a classic like
Leon: The Professional [DVD] [1995] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC] but still a fun film taken on it's own terms.
This is all reflected in the 4 star rating.
