Product Description

Product Description

A family divided by a feud gathers to celebrate a child's 10th birthday. As they assemble in London from France and Dorset, the unthinkable occurs, and two older members of the family fall passionately in love. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From the Back Cover

Life for the newly widowed Harriet Capel is not expected to hold any surprises. It will be spent watching over the vicissitudes of her children's marriages and relationships, and looking after the grandchildren. That is, until she sees Oliver Gaunt again. He is her daughter-in-law's father. The relationship between the parents-in-law has always been difficult since their children's wedding day and few words have been spoken. When they meet, they do not at first recognise one another, but the physical attraction between them is powerful and instantaneous. As their love affair gathers intensity and pace, so do its consequences for the family as a whole.

In Kiss and Kin, two generations walk a dangerous tightrope between fidelity and parenthood, each guarding past and present secrets, the revelation of which, in the white heat of passion, may destroy the carefully erected boundaries of tradition and propriety. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This was a reasonably readable book with an OK plot - if you can accept the notion of two people falling instantly in love, despite having met each other several times in the past, albeit many years ago. Personally, I just couldn't take this bit seriously. Another fault was the over whelming pomposity of nearly all the characters - do people really talk like this? "You see, we have fallen in love", "Tea! You clever thing", "Toodle Pip"?! The author's habit of using italics to emphasise so many words during conversations was particularly annoying. Clarissa (Nanny Rissa - ugh) was extremely guilty of this. I certainly won't be rushing out to buy any more books by this author.

This author and this reader were both new to me. It is a combination well worth 5 stars. I selected this tape at random. An excellent piece of luck.

Somehow the end of my car journeys always ended at an exciting part - so I sat on in the car!

Who knows with an audio book whether it's the author or the reader? But between the two they certainly brought out the emotions, the pathos and the hopelessness of two people falling in love at the wrong time and in the wrong circumstances. Or was it just sex?

A sensitive treatment of the unusual subject of love as it is for the older generation, set against the tensions of their own family circles.

Angela Lambert has the gift of getting right inside her characters, so that when you have finished the book you feel a keen sense of missing them.

The ending of the book was a disappointment though - as in so many of Lambert's novels, you are left with a sense of the unsynchronised, chaotic nature of life, and things happening at the wrong time.
