Book Description

2 Mar 1998

The worldwide No 1 bestseller from the author of Along Came a Spider and Jack and Jill – now a major film starring Morgan Freeman as Washington detective Alex Cross.

James Patterson first introduced his memorable hero – Alex Cross, the black homicide detective from Washington DC with a PhD in psychology – in the acclaimed Along Came a Spider. He made his triumphant return in Kiss the Girls – the phenomenal international No 1 bestseller which has now been made into a major Hollywood film by Paramount Pictures.

In Kiss the Girls, Cross is thrust into a case he will never forget. This time there isn’t just one killer, there are two. One collects beautiful, intelligent women on college campuses on the east coast. The other is terrorising LA with a series of unspeakable murders. But the truly chilling news is that the two brilliant and elusive killers are communicating, cooperating, competing – and they have Alex Cross’s niece.

This was the first James Patterson that I have read and if all his book are anything like this one give me more! It was the first book in a long time that I just didn't want to put down. He describes everything in such a way that it actually makes you think that it is all happening in real life. I only wish I had read Along came a spider first. SUPERB!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars So good you'll forget to go to work!! 18 April 2001
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
James Patterson surpases himself in this brilliantly constructed, chilling and exciting book. His use of language paints a picture of the killers and the world they live in that is almost too vivid to read. As you read the characters become so real you'll start to double check the locks before you go to bed and you almost expect to hear about it on the news. The plot while terrifying, is so deep and well assembled and well paced it will keep you reading for hours at a time, gripped in the tension he has created. I found myself screaming out loud at the scariest points. James Patterson is a master craftsman of this genre and and even the die hard sleuths will have trouble guessing the identity of the killers in this story! Kiss the Girls is one of the most exhilarating books I've ever read and it's a must for anyone who is into crime/mystery books, it's one of the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Read 12 Mar 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
After reading Patterson's first Alex Cross novel, "Along came a Spider", I couldn't help but wonder "How on earth is he going to top that?". With "Kiss the Girls", he has not only topped it, he has well and truely excelled himself. Kiss the Girls is a fantastic follow up to "Along came a Spider" and I can't wait to see what Mr. Patterson delights us with next. More Alex Cross please.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great book! 11 Jan 2000

Format:Paperback
I have to say I saw the film first and it was ok, but the book is miles better, I think people shoule forget about the film and read this book. I like the character 'Casanova' he was dark and myterious and very clever. But i also like the character 'Dr. Kate', the way she could handle her self was great. It was also a very graffic book and described the scenes of violence in great detail. Not a book for people who can't handle there horror. Buy this book. IT'S ABSOLUTELY GREAT!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Horrifying, Intense and Intriguing. 24 Sep 2005
Format:Paperback
What an amazing book this is. Please, don't be put off by the lame movies of Along Came A Spider or Kiss The Girls as they stray so far from the book it is beyond a joke. However, this book is definitely not for the faint-hearted. It describes murder and rape in very vivid detail that will no doubt horrify most readers. However, if you can cope with such imagery then this book is as amazing as it is chilling. Similar to the first Cross novel, KTG's proves to be a good example of a 'real' page-turner. Full of twists, the book switches from one characters point of view to the other, leaving the reader gagging to find out what happens next. After reading the first three Alex Cross books I can confidently say that this series looks to be a great one that I am glad to have stumbled upon.

3.0 out of 5 stars Average 16 Feb 2009

As you probably already know this is the second in James Patterson's long running Alex Cross series. The first being, in my oppinion the much supperior; Along Came a Spider. In this instalment, the slightly annoying Alex Cross seems to be the only person responsible for tracking down 2 serial killers that are competing for fame; Casanova & The Gentleman. Alex is so involved due to the fact that his niece Naomi is one of the girls suspected of being held captive by the killers, this however, is a story line that takes a bit of a backseat a few short chapters after it is first mentioned. It all seems a bit unbelievable that Cross would be put solely in charge of hunting down these two killers, and to be honest the writing style that Patterson uses to approach his characters begins to get quite distasteful and therefor the characters are begining to become progressively annoying.

And as some other reviewers have complained that it is too graphic in the rape scenes I have to admit that it really isnt all that bad. There is one quite gruesome scene involving a snake thats quite shocking but that is the only scene in the whole book, certainly not half as bad as what you would find in a Slaughter or Hayder book.

Overall not nearly as good as the first book in the series. The characters are becoming annoying, the story is highly unbelievable and the whole idea of Alex and Sampson being these two undestructable hard men just because theyre Washington police detectives is laughable and highly grating. I can only hope this improves for the next instalment.

4.0 out of 5 stars An exciting read! 29 Mar 2007
Format:Paperback
'Kiss The Girls' was the first novel I read by James Patterson and I loved it. It is gripping and exciting to read - a real page turner. As one or two of the other readers picked up on, it is very gruesome - it is a serious and intense story. If you dislike violence and gore then this book isn't for you, however you needn't be a horror/gory addict to enjoy the tale.

Detective Alex Cross is particularly wired during this investigation as his much loved niece is a victim - a masked man calling himself Casanova is kidnapping girls (only the best, most special - beautiful and talented girls) and keeping them locked up in a secret place. Casanova uses his strength and power to keep them there and he can (and does) do excatly as wishes with them. However, a pattern is emerging - if the girls don't comply to his rules - they are brutally murdered and left for the police to find.

This is a gripping 'can't put downable' read - but it isn't for the light hearted! There is also a film adapted from the novel. Personally, I think the film is ok, I did enjoy it but the novel is a lot more thrilling and entertaining.
