If you're a fan of the early recordings of Kiss, this is an important volume for your Kiss library. if you're a fan of Kiss, but not that familiar with the specifics of their developing stage act and appearances, after reading Scott Parker's book you'll want to listen to/watch those shows. This volume is chocked full of detail, every known nuance about specific concert dates and recordings is listed here. Small screen captures are provided as references for the events being discussed. Ideally, this book is best enjoyed while reading about certain dates and then watching or listening to the particular concerts being described. For the die-hard fan of the early days of Kiss, this will take you back to when things first began to take off for the Hottest Band in the World. Recommended reading for the serious Kissologist.

The book, and the pictures...

This is the author here...I had to give the book four stars because I like the book myself :-)
I've posted this on KISSFAQ, and it sums up my feelings well so it's worth posting here:
There is a review of the book on Amazon, and it's not a great one. But it also focuses on the least satisfactory part of the book (the pictures/screen shots). The reviewer did not actually read the book. He's right--the pictures aren't very good, but then they are only screen shots from a lot of fuzzy videos. The pictures aren't eye candy, they're just there to help you identify the video you're looking at (helpful with the 8mm stuff mostly) and to give you am idea of what quality you can expect the video to be--which, if you're a collector, isn't all that great. So what I would say is this: the best way to judge the text is to get the B&W version, as it's a lot cheaper. I'm not all that happy with the production and retail cost of the color version myself.
The only reason for doing a color version of the book BTW is that I always do that with my books :-)

Poor LTD edition

First of all, did not have had the time to read cause it just arrived... It looks as though it's written in the style of the book that came with "the box set" : who played what/where... recorded then/there + overviews of concerts/video's TV shows...
Let's assume the writer did a good job ;-p
I don't get it why to call this a limited Special edition... It stated : full colour... ACK! Yes, it has color pics alright... blurry screenshots taken from the tv shows and video concerts... even the color cover has blurry pics...
If you're NOT a DIE HARD Kiss fan buying everything released about KISS (I am one, so it goes straight into my collection) DON'T buy this color edition, it's a waste of money... you'll be disapointed ... If you want this you better consider the much cheaper black and white edition (though I doubt the picture quality will be better
