Product Description

Album Description

Kingwood is the latest album from the notorious Scandinavian punk unit Millencolin. Formed in Örebro, Sweden in the late '80s and inspired by the Southern California hardcore sound of bands like Operation Ivy, the Descendants and NOFX, Kingwood continues to keep the flame alive and retains the fierce hardcore sound of old.

4.0 out of 5 stars another solid effort, 8 April 2005
This album is another pretty good attempt from millencolin. As usual the songs are hit and miss with the 'misses' not being rubbish songs, just not up to millencolin's high standards.

The track opens with 4 very decent songs, the second and third being very catchy with a pop punk hook that could entertain even the most elitist punk. These songs remind me of 'botanic mistress' where songs start off great and slowly peter out towards the end.

I didnt really like Biftek supernova or My name is Golden. The middle tracks which dont seem to be catchy or have any depth within the lyrics.

Ray is another catchy song but with a weaker chorus. It falls down because the song tries to include too much attitude with the lyrics.

However the rest of the album doesnt fail to dissapoint. Millencolin, despite claiming theyve gone more punk than rock, have not left behind the greatness of songs like 'no cigar' and 'montego' for sellout punky songs. The songs at the end have genuine emotion and good lyrics, which hopefully will appeal to both punk and rock fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Strong Effort., 8 May 2005
By Biggneddy (Oxford, UK) - See all my reviews
Once again Millencolin deliver what they promise; fast, heavy punk with deeply significant lyrics. Whilst 'Kingwood' lacks some of the more catchy tunes of 'Home from Home' (an undervalued album in my opinion) , such as 'Happiness for Dogs' and 'Fingers Crossed' it does have many strong songs.
My favourite tunes have to be 'Ray' which i'm sure will soon be regarded as a classic by Millencolin fans, a fast punk rock tune, and 'Shut You Out' which is a bit more ballady then Millencolin fans will be used to but not in a bad way.
These songs are closely followed in quality by 'Cash or Clash' , another classic hard punk song, and the uplifting 'Mooseman's Jukebox'.
Whilst the songs obviously differ in quality there are no weak tunes on this album, all of them reach the high standards that we've come to expect from Millencolin with some exceptional tunes thrown in too.
All in all, a great album that shows that Millencolin are still at the top of their game. A must for Millencolin fans, punk enthusiasts and just about anybody else!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kingwood, 7 April 2005
By A Customer
What can i say apart from "Buy a copy now!"? Kingwood is a fantastic album, it may seem a little short but as the proverb goes, its very sweet (although not in the sugar or carebears way)

The first two tracks start the cd of tremendousley, with fast catchy beats and riffs, basically its pure millencolin. If you thought Pennybridge pioneers and Home From Home were brilliant, this will not disappoint. It is my favorite already, as far as i can tell the band get better and better with each album.
