Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Adding an SSD to a desktop already using a standard hard disk drive is a smart and efficient way to upgrade. Transferring the operating system and applications from the HDD to the SSD allows the SSD to be used as a bootable drive that takes full advantage of the flash-based technology. For notebooks, SSDNow drives are a perfect replacement for hard drives resulting in faster, more reliable performance. Making this change will improve a notebook's efficiency in a wide range of tasks, from booting up to running the most robust operating system and demanding applications.SSDNow uses a standard SATA interface but, unlike a regular HDD, SSD is very rugged and built with no moving parts, making it ideal for power users and road warriors who push the limits of their notebooks. Other benefits include reduced power usage, less noise and less heat generation. Kingston's SSDNow V Series offers performance gains and power consumption reductions at a fraction of the cost of a system.

Poor SSD 26 Feb 2010
By Tim
Kingston sneakily named this drive SSDNowV to confuse it with SSDNow, the last letter is very important, as the V denotes the use of the JMicron controller which is the worst performing controller on the market. This SSD exhibited the JMicron stuttering problem after only a few days use. Do not buy this SSD if you are after a high-performance SSD. I will never buy Kingston product again.

I ordered the Kingston SSDNow drive and easily upgraded my home PC following the simple instructions. Cloning my existing hard disc was easy and as I keep an orderly ship the 34GB of operating system and programmes were transferred in less than 8 minutes. I was up and running in 10 minutes. I use Windows 7 and everything is faster - start up, anti-virus scans, programming. I use a portable drive to store my Outlook PST files and Outlook operates easily and much faster. I also use ArchiCAD and again the speed of the SSD was a real boon to my 3D modelling. For info my stystem is a home built quad core processor, 4GB memory, 1GB HDMI graphics card. My PC now starts faster than an Apple and is laughingly more powerful than a G4 costing 2, 3, 4 or even 5 times the price.

Kingston SSD 64Gb 7 April 2010
Does what it says on the tin. A budget SDD. On reflection paying a £100+ for 64Gb compared to getting 2Tb if I bought SATA may not have been the best move but it has made my PC much quieter and it does load windows faster which was the main reason to switch to SSD in the first place.
I wont be buying any more until the prices come right down and the capacity goes up but this was worth a punt to see what all the SSD fuss was about.
