5.0 out of 5 stars usb3 multicard reader 7 Sep 2012
Verified Purchase
This reader is no bigger than it needs to be. It has slide out covers to help protect the usb plug and the card ports. There are no silly thin wires to get broken which is what happened to most of my other card readers. Yes this is a card reader that will be around for a good amount of time. Speed of accessing data on cards is really fast on a USB3 capable computer or printers Yes I am happy with my purchase and I would recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intuitive design, quick transfers 16 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase
Such intuitive design, absolutely superb! Love it, and only for 6, bargain! Would definitely buy more of these. I only needed it for the SD and MicroSD. It is a bit bulky though so beware for laptops, but for a desktop with plenty of ports, it is perfect.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Satisfied 4 Dec 2012
By ML

It arrived in 2 days and test on many SD and MicroSD format.
It works flawless with every card I tried.
It seems to me transfer speed on USB 2.0 is faster than other adapter.
In USB 3.0, it fly at 84mb/s at one time.
There is two card receptors. You can put one SD card and one MicroSD card at the same time.
It shows on pc as two separate drives.
The sliding cover is a bit flimsy, and You should slide in when use cards.
Overall, happy with function, not great on construction side of sliding cover.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too wide for use on a laptop 4 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase
My laptop has two USB2 ports and one USB 3.0 port - but I cant use this on the laptop because of the size of the reader.
One of the ports is slightly recessed behind a rubber flap and this reader cannot plug into it at all.
The other two ports are adjacent to other ports such as power, ethernet, HDMDI etc and I would have to unplug one of these existing cables in order to use this reader.
Kingston should provide a small extension lead to cover such scenarios....
Speed wise it seems ok - was just as fast as using the laptop's built in SD reader. In case you are wondering why I bought this when I already have a SD reader built in - it was for the MicroSD slot so I dont have to keep faffing with the MicroSd to Ad adaptors...

5.0 out of 5 stars Sustained Read Rate 82MB/s 1 July 2013
By Q
Verified Purchase
That's MegaBytes, not bits.

Using a SAN-Disc Extreme Pro UHS-1 64GB. The card is rated 95MB/s (max). Given that my PC is good by not bleeding edge, I think that's a fair score.

Compared to a built in card reader also on USB3 which went at half that rate.

Its a bit "clumpy" size wise, but it works fast and I am guessing that's what most are after.

2.0 out of 5 stars Kingston USB 3 card Reader 29 Aug 2012
By Ginney

The product is fine in terms of usage, but the awkward design of the retractable "protection cover" on both ends (protecting the USB connector and Memory cards) really dont serve its intended purpose, it is too loose and easily retracted in any handling condition, i dont want to mention how it fares when you put it in your pocket. The faint Blue LED activity indicator is so dim (due to the thick middle plastic section) it serves no purpose as an indicator (you really have to turn off all ambient light to even notice it).

Other than all these flaws, the writing speed is as stated really depends on the memory card that you purchase eg: class 10 SD cards are significantly faster than Class 4

this particular Kingston I bought was actually faulty when it came. Once plugged into the USB 3 port the computer wouldnt recognise it at all conversely it works in a USB 2 port. hence I suspect that it might be the USB 3 is faulty. I look at the connector closely and I notice one of the 5 pins located behind the USB 2 leads was shorter than the other 4. I took my USB3 Buffalo hard drive connector to make a comparison, and got a clear conclusion that the USB3 was indeed faulty. Knowing that I needed to use the product and had no time to return it, I used a small jeweller's flat screw driver to pick that particular pin making it evenly tall. That fixed the problem.
