3.0 out of 5 stars Intel G2 controller BUT NO TRIM!, 21 Jan 2010
By A. Wiersch - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V-Series Desktop Upgrade Kit - Solid state drive - 40 GB - internal - 2.5" - SATA-300 (Personal Computers)
Even though this uses a 2nd generation Intel controller, Kingston is now saying that the product has been discontinued in favor of newer offerings (like their 30GB value drives which will support TRIM and their V+ 2nd gen series which will also support TRIM). Very disappointed as I expected a TRIM update. Because of this, I'm knocking off 2 stars, otherwise this might be a great value SSD.

UPDATE: It seems this drive can be "hacked" with the Intel firmware to support TRIM.

5.0 out of 5 stars I has no moving parts., 13 April 2010

It has no moving parts. SSD, (Solid State Device), is all electronic. It is a 40 gig hard drive for the computer and seems to work great. I am running it on Ubuntu system. The system analysis of the drive as being larger than 40 gigs, but that is a problem with the Disk Usuage Analyzer. Essentially the hard drive works fine. I have had no trouble since the day of purchase. Please note that if placing this unit into a computer tower case that one should get the desktop adapter kit with the drive.

For those still uncertain whether to jump on the SSD bandwagon or not; do it! Upgrading your processor and/or memory doesn't help your OS startup/shutdown times and running speed anywhere near this much.
