Reviews

Based upon the acclaimed comic book and directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kick Ass, X-Men First Class), the film tells the story of The Kingsman; a super-secret spy organization that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into his agency’s ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius

Matthew Vaughn, my favourite director, has done it again. Kingsman: The Secret Service, a far superior adaptation of a comic book of the same name (also written by Vaughn).

This pastiche of spy films manages to be both a very adult, sharp satire of the genre, but also serves as a nostalgic callback to the more colourful days of James Bond and John Steed. Walking a very fine line between the tones of an outright goofy Austin Powers-esque affair and a surprisingly inspired action film (that visually rivals the likes of Skyfall), Vaughn's meticulous direction and bravery as a director (who doesn't give a s*** about offending people) just helps define this as a unique beast of a movie.

Between the superb casting of newcomer Taron Egerton, as the chavvy Kingsman recruit, paired in an unlikely fashion with Colin Firth (who's six months physical training has paid off in what is hands down the greatest sequence of combat in Western cinema), and the against-type bonkers performance of Samuel L. Jackson as the movie's bizarre villain, it's fair to say this film has a pretty spectacular cast. And most surprising, the film isn't without genuine heart and morals. And that's not something very common in action movies.

Gorier than most horror movies, more stylishly jaw-dropping than most action movies, much funnier than pretty much all recent comedies, and braver than anything else I’ve seen on the big screen in 5 years, this hyperkinetic action packed, gadget extravaganza is a flawless deconstruction of the genre, packed with heart and a shamelessly inspired love-hate re-imagining of the spy genre’s goofiest elements. It’s my idea of a flawless movie.

10/10 Ambitious, wacky, blasphemous, sexist, gory chaos at its finest. Best film of 2015 already established.

One of the most entertaining movies i have seen in years. A kind of Tarantino James Bond Movie. Yes its far fetched and over the top and very funny. Lots of violence but its so ridiculous you just have to laugh.

I have never before been moved to write a movie review on Amazon...

This is a superb piece of work. Classy, cool, subversive, with the occasional burst of shocking, breathtaking, uber violence to twist into the mix. This movie rocks.

The story itself is not a work of genius, it is predictable and cliched, although there is one genuinely shocking surprise and many of the key plot-points are held back to unravel unusually late in the movie so there is a measure of suspense or at least confusion in the mind of the viewer.

However, while the story may not be earth shattering, the way the film is "put together" is quite superb and the entire viewing experience is incredible FUN.

From the opening credits, which morph from masonry chunks exploded from a desert palace from helicopter launched missiles... To the end scene which is a blatant prelude to gloriously announced POV a*** sex, yes I said that... This movie never fails to provoke a gasp or a grim and often both at once.

There are uncountable references to other movies and the genre itself is explicitly lampooned at numerous points. Huge amounts of product placement: so what - it's all around us and if it helped getting this fabulous movie made then bring it on..

Great performances from the two male leads. Colin Firth and Eggsy just... KickAss! Excellent work from the two lead female characters too. Pretty much every significant actor hands in snappy output, although Michael Caine was looking a bit tired perhaps.

I loved this movie. It's done for the spy genre what Guardians of the Galaxy did for the Sci Fi/superhero genre last year: only better.

Forget about Bond: every teenaged boy is gonna wanna be a Kingsman.

BEST MOVIE OF 2015

This movie is such a breath of fresh air when it comes to spy secret agent movies, a very original and brilliant take on the whole genre, the story basically centres around the young lad Eggsy who is a youth with a troubled start in life who is taken under the wing of Galahad one of the kingsman played by Colin Firth, he sees the potential in Eggsy and who he can become, the movie has plenty of action and quality fight sequences that are really well shot and are utterly violent, I think Matthew Vaughn has done an amazing job of directing this, its the kick-ass of spy movies for sure, certainly Vaughn's best and most entertaining work yet, the entire cast is fantastic too, Colin Firth is really good, an interesting role for him with plenty of action involved, Sam Jackson is super cool as usual and plays a hilariously ridiculous yet badass villain with a lisp, he also has the most badass sidekick ever Gazelle with the razor feet, this is a super charged movie from beginning to end, great action, insanely violent, great fresh story, great humour, high tech gadgets, great cast, I think this takes the best from the classic days of old fashioned spy movies and makes it its own thing, forget boring bond movies this is a franchise that is dying for sequels!

Watch out for the church fight scene, it has be one of the best ever!!

Blu-ray picture quality is great
Features include multiple making of and behind the scenes 86-minutes total approx, and galleries and trailers.
128-Mins running time, 2015.
