5.0 out of 5 stars sure you'll grab something!! 13 May 2004
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
it is amazing how can a small thing contains alot of information like this book. it covers the british monarchs begining with romans down to Elizabeth II. with a protrait of each of them and very short, brief, concise biography, covering only imporatant events in thier reign (actually it is one of the drawbacks of the book that it makes what else happened). other two major drawbacks are 1) very small print and 2)as foriegner, I found it difficult to locate the towns, cities and places with out and map (I used the Encarta World Atlas which turned out to be of a great help). this I liked the most, for each monarch, there is small box summerizing the birth, death, ascending the thron dates and parents, important wives and sons the places on birth, coronation and burial.

I really enjoyed the reading and it is so small it can fit into your pocket. definitely worth the money. I suggest an expanded-normal size version with illustrations and maps.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must resource for writers, teachers, everyone! 8 July 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Everything you need to know about the kings and queens of England are right here in this tiny volume. If you can't keep your Edwards or Henrys straight, you need this pocket book. This book is especially useful for non-Brits and writers of historical fiction and historical romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Little Gem 10 Aug 2007
By J. Chippindale TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
For anyone with children in the family this is a must have book. Not for the children, but for you when they start asking those awkward little homework questions. It is also indispensable for quizzes and crosswords. The book covers every British monarch that has reigned since pre-Saxon times. It is well illustrated with colored illustrations (well you are not going to get a photograph of Alfred the Great are you?).

The information on each monarch gives details of their birth, parentage and the length of their reign as well the the more important events that happened while they were on the throne. This type of subject is where the Collins Gem books really come into their own. I have several on different subjects and have never regretted buying any of them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brief histories 22 Oct 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
A useful summary of each of the monarchs of Britain and its constituent kingdoms down the centuries - usually around a page on each. This is very handy for refreshing the memory (it's a long time since my history lessons at school) and for filling in gaps in knowledge. Not for those who want detailed coverage but a handy pocket size for checking something quickly.
