Product Description

Product Description

Dazzling in their beauty, many of the 123 species of kingfisher, bee-eater and roller are very poorly known. This reference provides a review of the group showing every species, all the main races and most sex and age variations. Text and plates are closely co-ordinated with emphasis on behaviour, field characters and identifcation. Colour maps showing breeding and wintering ranges are also included.

A fantastic work, and indispensable to those who want to know more about this group of birds. The 40 colour plates are beautifully painted, showing each species and often several subspecies alongside distribution maps, making it easy to discover where you would find each bird rather than having to constantly refer to the text. The text itself is informative and detailed without being too long-winded, and provides helpful tips on identifying closely-related species where their ranges overlap. Would make a good companion to any field guide to a particular area, to read and take tips from before going into the field. I'm sure many people find these birds beautiful and would therefore love this book - it's a shame we only have one species out of the lot here in the UK!
