An excellent product of top quality coming complete with everything you need.

The caddy itself feels far more expensive then it really is and comes with ZIF cable, usb cable and soft carry case. Spare screws are provided for fastening the lid and even a miniature screwdriver.

There are no instructions with the product but there are not really necessary, if you can't work it out you probably should be allowed to hold a screwdriver let alone an internal hard disk.

I purchased this to attempt recovery of data from a 1.8" Toshiba Hard Disk after my Sony Vaio TZ has suffered from catastrophic failure.

It took maybe 5 minutes to unbox the product, fit the hard disk and have it up and running. Data transfers are pretty speedy too, though of course it is dependent on the hard disk being fitted. Windows 7 recognised the drive and installed the relevant drivers automatically in seconds.

No problems here with fitting the ZIF cable either from a thickness or length issue (mentioned in other comments).

I looked at other products and interface cards before purchasing, but very glad I got this because the new recovered disk has a second use as an external drive.

The only slight criticism I have is the screwdriver provided was a touch too large for the screws and was difficult to tighten them right up without risking rounding the heads.

Working in IT and being a gadget lover i had over time accumulated a number of 1.8in HDDs.
This was just the ticket to making use of those disks.

This item may seem highly priced for what it is but the quality really is excellent here.
The kit includes everything you need to setup and even includes a quality plush suede carry bag.
The caddy itself has a rubberised exterior circled by a chrome effect strip around its midsection. It feels very sturdy, looks great and is very small. All my tech collegues have commented on it, all favourably. Notably to its size and good asthetic design.

A small gripe maybe that the unit is screw fixed closed and so is not suitable to swapping disks in and out the caddy often. Though with ZIF you probably wont want that anyway. Just buy additional caddies as required.

Buy one. They are the way foward for that 1.8 you have in that draw of bits you keep. You know, just 'incase'.

Having encountered other enclosures in the past I had expected this kit to include only the case and a USB cable, but I was delighted to open the stout box and discover a comprehensive kit as shown in the uploaded photo.

It includes:

1. Enclosure case finished in a soft-touch coating.
2. ZIF PATA cable
3. A bag of tiny screws for sealing the enclosure, with plenty of spares
4. A screw-driver for the above
5. A carrying pouch for the enclosure
6. USB cable
7. A sheet of sticky-backed cushioning pads in case your disk is smaller than the enclosure's internal void.

I fitted a Toshiba 1.8" rotational disk with no issues, other than having to fold the ZIF cable back onto itself to fit it inside.

An excellent kit, which exceeded my expectations.

I brought this product to utilise the 80GB hard drive from my broken iPod Classic. Although the product does not come with any instructions, it is fairly easy. The only tricky aspect is to get the zif connector inside to sit neatley. Once hard drive is in place you and the case is enclosed, you will a have a very solid and durable case that houses your 1.8" Zif drive. All tools and fitting come with the product. There is no need for any further equipment.

Reasons no to buy this so far :

1/ No instructions. Normally I wouldn't worry at all about this - just get on with it. In this case it matters. The disk & adapter connect with a tiny flexible connector which can be connected in 8 different ways, some of which just result in no connection - depending on the design of the connectors on the disk - some connect pin 1 to pin 40 - and pin 40 to pin 1.
Lovely, thanks very much.
2/ The connecting cable is thicker at one end, and will not fit in my drives connector - that might reduce the number of connection options by half. It also means there is a distinct risk of damaging the cable
3/ The case is not insulated, thus when the drive is put into the case, it short-circuits.
Unbelievable.
When this happens the regulator chip overheats

I don't yet know whether I have damaged my drive finding these things out.

Initially I couldn't fit the ZIF cable into the Toshiba drive and damaged the cable. I bought a spare ZIF cable and managed to fit it but the drive failed to work in the enclosure.

The ZIF connector on the Kingspec also fails to clamp the ZIF cable tightly enough due the requirement to install with a Z bend in the cable. It seems to lift up the ZIF clamp on the connector.

With a book resting on the ZIF clamp to hold it tightly I managed to get my PC to recognise the USB device but the disk failed to spin up and I could not open the drive.

There are absolutely no instructions with this enclosure package so you're on your own.

I've given up on this now. I'm not sure whether the problem is with the Toshiba MK1011GAH drive or the KingSpec enclosure but cannot recommend this unit due to lack of instructions and very weak clamp on the ZIF connector.
