On The King Years 1961-1965 we find 111 Stanley Brothers' secular and gospel bluegrass songs, which include 104 songs with vocals and seven instrumental only songs. I have taken the time to sit down and listen to the complete four cd set of The King Years 1961-1965 on two different times since I received The King Years in the mail. These two complete listenings of all four cds have been magnificent and thrilling listening experiences! Out of the 111 songs that are found on The King Years, I much enjoyed listening to 104 wonderful secular and gospel bluegrass songs! That means that I only disliked seven of the 111 songs. The Stanley Brothers' The King Years four cd set is such an astounding technological compilation of at least 104 outstanding secular and gospel bluegrass songs that it's difficult to accurately describe it. It will take me years of listening to and most highly enjoying The King Years to fully realize its most outstanding value! I am now at the point where I am listening to each of the four discs, one at a time, in my car stereo and on my home stereo. My "listening to a wide variety of music caravan" has stopped, and I am now listening only to The King Years, time after time, focused only upon better knowing the fabulous 1961-1965 bluegrass music of the Stanley Brothers. It is very much a thrill to listen to outstanding song after outstanding song, with so very few songs that I don't appreciate. There are so very many fabulous secular and gospel songs that the music found on The King Years is a wonderful, and I think absolutely necessary, addition to every true bluegrass fan's cd collection. The Stanley Brothers were so highly talented and so highly disciplined with such high musical standards that nearly every song that they recorded during this 1961-1965 time period was an outstanding musical achievement! Both Carter and Ralph Stanley were/are multi-talented musicians. However, the most obvious talent that really stands out on The King Years is the lead voice of Carter Stanley. Carter's beautiful and distinctive lead voice and the beautiful bluegrass harmony that Carter and Ralph sing together most differentiate the music of the Stanley Brothers from the music of Ralph Stanley. No one else has ever sang bluegrass lead vocals as well and as effectively as Carter Stanley does on Stone Walls And Steel Bars and on Don't Cheat In Our Hometown! Bill Monroe concluded that Carter Stanley had the best natural lead voice in bluegrass music. Bill Monroe's conclusion may very well be true, although there are more recent outstanding lead voices in bluegrass music, and they include the lead voices of John Duffey, Roy Lee Centers, and Ricky Skaggs. I believe that the Stanley Brothers and their line-ups of the Clinch Mountain Boys had the best combined vocal and instrumental sound of any group that has ever played and sang bluegrass music! This belief seems so obvious and clear after listening to and most highly enjoying The King Years. When we take into account not only the Stanley Brothers' The King Years, but also their Early Starday-King Years, their Mercury recordings, their Columbia recordings, and their Rich-R-Tone recordings, we find that the Stanley Brothers have recorded a larger catalogue of outstanding bluegrass music than any other bluegrass artist(s), past or present! A very substantial portion of the large music catalogue which Ralph Stanley has recorded are merely re-recordings of the same songs that he originally recorded as a member of the Stanley Brothers. While I dearly love both the secular bluegrass music and the gospel bluegrass music of the Stanley Brothers, I most highly respect the Stanley Brothers for their enduring commitment to beautiful bluegrass gospel music. I find the Stanley Brothers' bluegrass gospel music very inspiring for my own strong Christian faith. The Stanley Brothers' gospel music brings us closer to God and to those whom we love, but who have died and gone home to heaven. The Stanley Brothers' twin goals were to spread the wonderful sound of their outstanding bluegrass music to the widest possible audience and to testify to their own Christian faith through their beautiful bluegrass gospel music. These twin goals have been further accomplished with the release and distribution of The King Years. I want to do my small part to further distribute The King Years by telling you how very much I treasure and most highly enjoy the outstanding bluegrass music found on The King Years. I hope that you will purchase The King Years because I believe it to be the best bargain in music that I have ever acquired and because I believe that you too will most highly appreciate the Stanley Brothers' beautiful secular and gospel bluegrass music found on The King Years. Furthermore, I believe that many, perhaps most, of you who do now purchase, listen to, and highly enjoy The KIng Years will then agree with me that the Stanley Brothers and their line-ups of the Clinch Mountain Boys were the best, the most thrilling, and the most inspiring group to ever play and sing bluegrass music. The King Years 1961-1965 is a MUST BUY for every learned and truly devoted fan of bluegrass music who desires to listen to and highly enjoy the best of bluegrass music!
