Rea in his best form 29 April 2003
By Mitch
Format:Audio CD
This is one of my favourite chris rea albums, though i have to say i wasn't taken with it immediately. I listened to it a lot last summer- it is a summer album with some great lazy tunes and rhythms particularly in All summer long and Mississippi.

The title track is good, but there are better ones. Guitar street is a reworking of the same song found on the Chris rea album. Its is very moving, and with waiting for a blue sky , forms the best two tracks. the latter one is a jazzy masterpiece that builds up to a great ending.

The weaker songs include Sandwriting and tamatave but they are still easy to listen to in the right mood.

This album is preferble in the summer months , on the beach and with the album from 1986 On the beach. You can't go wrong here.

Well, he try'ed "Road to Hell Part 2" and it was an almighty flop, so he goes for "On the Beach part 2" and he pulls it off!

The sound is a return to the Rea mid 80's sound and its a triumphant attempt. This CD never really sold in great quantities, possibly due to being released in the winter time rather than the Summer did not help but it definately deserved to do better.

Some quality music on here with the highlights being "King of the Beach", "Who do you love" and the beautiful "Sail away", I wonder if Rea "owed the record company one" and he gave them a safe bet with this and you are sometimes left wondering whether Rea is actually enjoying himself whilst doing this but he obviously knows what he's long term fans wanted and he definately delivered.

This was he last "pre-serious illness" CD and its unlikely that he will return to this style again due to the fact that he now appears to be re-born as a totally blues artist - so for the fans of mid 80's Rea this is a must and for people who have never purchased a Rea CD before this is also a great purchase if your looking for the ultimate summer CD - buy this alongside "On the Beach" and you will have a whole afternoon's worth of classic summer relaxing tunes.

What a pleasant surprise! After driving down a commercial alley for the past 7 or so CDs, this is a return to the Rea glory days. He is a great tunesmith with a legendary voice, and this recording has a reassuring quality that Shamrock, On The Beach and Wired also have.

His CDs do not really need a stand out single, as their enduring value lies in their ability to put one's mind at peace for the entire recording.

I would say that the only weak track is Tamatave, as his Middlesbrough French really doesn't work! On the positives, Sail Away has a similar hypnotic feel to Just Passing Through, and while Bones of Angels and All Summer Long are beautifully crafted Rea tunes, I would say that my favourite is the foot tapping gem - Who Do You Love.
