King, ship and sword.
Firstly, do not suppose this is a naval story. It's not. It's more a poor man's tour of North West France in agonizing detail. The proliferation of American verbage such as "gotten", "drapes", etc. really irritates when one is weaned on Patrick O'Brien and CS Forrester and the story line is unbelievably weak and impossible to take seriously. Perhaps the author needs a crash course in 19th century dialogue and custom and reader respect before attempting the follow up.
I thought Mr Lambdin was a breath of fresh air when the series started. Now its hardly worth pursuing.
