Book Description

The wonderful saga of the Adams family continues - begun in Down Lambeth Way and Our Emily.

From the Back Cover

Sammy was the sharp one of the Adams family.Since he was nine-years-old - when he'd charged his mother interest on a loan to make up the rent money - he'd been busy setting up deals and expanding the family business - a china stall in East Street market. But as his mighty empire grew - two shops and a factory in Shoreditch - so did the determination of his assistant, Susie Brown.

Susie adored Sammy - although she thought he needed a bit of work done on him, a few rough spots knocked off - and she had decided, quite early on, that Sammy was going to marry her.But Sammy, rapidly becoming the King of Camberwell, and dreading that marriage was going to cost him money, decided to put up a fight. It was a battle he hadn't a hope of winning - especially when all the rest of the Adams family were on Susie's side.

Here again are all the magnificent characters from Down Lambeth Way and Our Emily - Chinese Lady, keeping her family in order and contemplating matrimony for the second time.Emily and Boots, facing a serious rift in their marriage - a rift not helped by the hovering Polly Sims.Tommy, daring to woo Cousin Vi when he 'wasn't quite good enough for her', and Sammy, pulling his wonderful Walworth family into the good times at last.

"King of Camberwell" is the third book in the Adams series by Mary Jane Staples. This book focus on the changing fortune of Sammy Adams, indeed the whole Adams family. It shows the love that develops between Sammy and Susie Brown, a young girl that started out working for Sammy in his market stall.
This was really good book, Ms. Staples is able to cover all her characters in good fashion. She gives the reader a family that any reader would want to be a part of. Any book by Ms. Staples should not be missed.

The Adam's family are like friends to me, this story I think is the best, and that is saying something.I just could'nt believe how shy Sammy Adam's was when he was with Susie Brown and was really relieved when Susie sorted him out when nursing him. These books are really worth a read, but please read in order to really appreciate them. They are full of humour and sometimes a little bit of mystery. He is truly a remarkable writer and i eagerly look forward to The Homecoming.

You can this book on it's own without having read any of the Adams family stories but I'm hooked and the family become like friends and you can't wait to see what happens to them next. Mary Jane Staples brings them all to life.Start with Down Lambeth Way and then Our Emily.Highly recommended if you like an easy read and a book you can get ito as soon as you open the first page.

Great story that continues, from Our Emily, telling of the lives of the Adams family. It is set in London just after the first World War. I really enjoyed this book and have collected the rest of the set.
